This weekend the BGG wargame forum will remember the contributions of Charles S. Roberts, the founder of Avalon Hill.

In the years after he left the company the marketing effort at Avalon Hill became a little scattered, with a variety of merchandise appearing in the AH catalogs. One unusual item was Avalon Hill bumper stickers.

Perhaps the most popular of these nerdy automobile accessories was “Follow Me I Play Squad Leader” but I know several other bumper stickers were produced; I remember seeing them advertised in old Avalon Hill brochures from the 1980s.

Tell us about Avalon Hill bumper stickers you remember.

Give us a few examples of bumper stickers that wargame players might purchase today!

A special “Thank you!” goes out to…

I might be remembering this wrong (and it's so ridiculous that you'd probably think so), but I swear they offered a bumper sticker that said "Candy Might Be Dandy, But Avalon Hill Games Won't Rot Your Teeth".

God, that is excruciating even to type out.

The Squad Leader bumper sticker, I think, is a bit too much. First, it's a pretty dumb joke. Second, the only thing the average guy in the car behind you is going to gather is that you have a Nazi on your bumper.

The Panzerblitz t-shirt seemed pretty awesome. They advertised it in The General. The model was a pretty girl (I think/hope she was a girl--she had that kind of haircut that some guys like David Cassidy wore. Who knows, it was the 1970s). Anyway, these days, I think the PB t-shirt would look great on some horn-rimmed, bearded hipster kid.

Cafe press is a great source for wargaming stuff, mugs, T Shirts, mousemats etc. One of my favourite buys is a cup with the quote "Living life one turn at a time".

Thanks Pete for the CSR mention
