How important would you think it is to buy influence on your allied powers as a precaution? Is it a waste of resources or an important strategic investment?

As Spain, would you invest 2-3 CPs early in a turn to protect Papacy from a hostile takeover? I am thinking it might be a good idea to protect your ally early on, especially Papacy since Papal Bull is a mandatory event that potentially can be played on every turn.

Since you can't use a treasure to do the same type of action used with the card, treasures are good for influence or patronage after doing your military or naval actions.
