Dear Chit-Chat Intelligentsia:

I have been searching for the name of a text-based college basketball game I used to play on the Apple IIe back around 1985. It used real players from the 1983 or 84 season. Anyone else remember playing this game and what it was called? It's driving me nuts.

Thanks!!

An Apple II fan I work with said all he remembers is a non-text based game:

"Dr. J vs. Larry Bird"

from the mid-80s.

Not trying to be snarky, but you actually could probably find someone to answer this question on VGG.

I prefer the Chit Chatters; they're less snarky.

I had that one too. That result is what comes up on my Google searches, but not the game I'm thinking of. Thanks though.

I don't recognize that one, but talk of the Apple IIe is giving me flashbacks.

Call it an Apple Panic attack. Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

I remember the hours I spent playing that, and Lemonade Stand, not to mention coding games in BASIC, specifically the one where you flew a craft through a tunnel . . .

I really am not trying to be snarky. I get that some people like Chit Chat for discussing RPGs and video games. Okay, you want to discuss something you care about with people you know and like.

But you're not looking for a discussion. You're looking for a fact. Why wouldn't you go to people who specialize in video game knowledge?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that Chit Chat has made the rest of the internet obsolete . . .

Did Lance Haffner basketball exist for the Apple? Would've been around the same time, for sure.

I just Googled "Lance Haffner" that and that's it! "Final Four" My brother and I spent hours making brackets and playing out tournaments. It would sometimes crash if you played as U of Michigan. Thanks Chris.

Sadly, it's no longer available for PC (his website is down). But, you can get emulator/mame versions, I believe.

He never made a windows version, so you'd normally need dosbox to run it (and dosprn to print it).
