Even the linked article admits that the listing was incorrect. Not sure what the point is.

Obama and the New Kids on the Block had the same literary agent. Therefore: Hitler.

Andrew Breitbart was never a "Birther," and Breitbart News is a site that has never advocated the narrative of "Birtherism." In fact, Andrew believed, as we do, that President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1961.

...Regardless of the reason for Obama's odd biography, the Acton & Dystel booklet raises new questions as part of ongoing efforts to understand Barack Obama

This seems like a reasonable approach in contrast to just ignoring it.

As the article states, Obama's "history" has been altered and manipulated to fit whatever current audience is perceived to want to hear. So back then, he's an African done good in a white man's land. Once he becomes a national figure he's no longer that but a native Hawaiian. What this proves is that I was right back in 2007 and 2008 - he's an empty vessel. he's whatever you want him to be. An empty suit.

A normal person would have allowed his school transcripts to be released years ago. But then, a normal person doesn't write a self-aggrandizing autobiography before they're 40 years old.

It's strange a lawyer of all people would allow this to be written about himself assuming he knew about it.

From the article:

Quote:
The errant Obama biography in the Acton & Dystel booklet does not contradict the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate. Moreover, several contemporaneous accounts of Obama’s background describe Obama as having been born in Hawaii.

Followed by "the biography does, however, fit a pattern in which Obama--or the people representing and supporting him--manipulate his public persona...Obama has been known frequently to fictionalize aspects of his own life."

Not exactly the same thing as the "listing being incorrect", is it?

Yeah, that's objective reporting there.

Deny what? That a literary agent decides to pad the facts of a biography to sell more copies to a target audience?

Let be the first to tell you that if ANY biography ever written ever aout anyone was 100% Factual, I would be super fucking flabbergasted(i.e. there ain't no such thing)

Here's a good one from the article:

Quote:
David Maraniss's forthcoming biography of Obama has reportedly confirmed, for example, that a girlfriend Obama described in Dreams from My Father was, in fact, an amalgam of several separate individuals.

That composites were used is mentioned right in the forward to the actual book. There's some real objective reporting for you. shake

Because of his chameleon-like nature, it's no wonder there was a birther controversy. It's not that he wasn't born in Hawaii; it's that for so much of his life he pretended he wasn't an American. He doesn't like us and doesn't like having to prove he's one of us.

Yeah, personally I could care less about where he was born and find the law to be anachronistic at this point. Deliberate deception is the more interesting story to me assuming that is not one of the most careless typos ever.

Because as everyone knows, "Americans" are a single monolithic bloc, perfectly tuned in every thought to align ourselves to the one true American state of mind. You and I are perfect examples, so attuned to each other that we practically finish each other's sentences. USA! USA! USA! USA!

You make the leap from observing that Obama tries to shape and control his public image to his advantage (something the overwhelming majority of politicians and other public figures do), to claiming that he in particular is therefore an "empty suit". How ridiculous.

The irony of course is that Romney (the only alternative and thus relevant comparison) is one of the most notoriously unprincipled politicians in recent memory. His flagrant flip-flopping on pretty much any issue for the sake of political gain is arguably what he is best known for. I don't condone it in either case, but the audacity to single out Obama for this trait is a cross between pathetic and comical.

The sad part is that there is actually an interesting debate to be had about the ideological differences between the parties, but you and Drew reliably come up with the most lowbrow talking points imaginable.

Moreover, I would rather have a president that strategically adjusts his positions and policies to pander to the electorate than one that brazenly ignores the public will and starts several wars overseas, in the process tanking the national budget, killing thousands of Americans and debasing America's image abroad.

Eric, if I had $5 for every time an editor in the PR/Marketing group mangled my bio as they released it to support one of our events, a consulting engagement, or for press purposes, I would be able to put a hell of a down payment on that Ferrari I've always wanted. It's gotten to such laughable proportions that I have a repeating reminder task in my calendar to go review my press bio and make sure it hasn't been altered.

I would put money on the text being prepared and/or changed without Mr. Obama's knowledge, let alone consent or approval. I would hedge that with a bet that even if they did run it by him for approval, they didn't bother to even read his corrections or ensure that they made the final galley before printing.

Never attribute to conspiracy what can best be explained by sheer incompetence.

Nixon wasn't able to keep Watergate a secret. Think anyone is going to be able to keep Obama not being a citizen secret?

Certainly a possibility but to dismiss it as "Not sure what the point is" or "they just can't let this shit go can they" seems naive or partisan. As someone who has no interest in the birther controversy nor cares if he was in Kenya, I’m still interested in why it said he was born in there whether a careless typo or not. It certainly elevates it past a “conspiracy”, to me at least.

Hmmm, I don't see the "mangled his bio" story cutting it if this is true.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/05/17/Obama-pam...

According to archive.org, a website that caches websites on a regular basis, the Dystel.com website – the official website for Dystel & Goderich, Obama’s literary agents – was using the Barack Obama “born in Kenya” language until April 2007, just two months after then-Senator Obama declared his campaign for the presidency.

Archive.org shows that the Dystel website used the following biography for Obama as of April 3, 2007:

BARACK OBAMA is the junior Democratic senator from Illinois and was the dynamic keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He was also the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii, and Chicago. His first book, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER: A STORY OF RACE AND INHERITANCE, has been a long time New York Times bestseller.

Obama launched his presidential campaign in February 2007.

By April 21, 2007, the Obama bio had been changed to state that Obama was born in Hawaii:

BARACK OBAMA is the junior Democratic senator from Illinois and was the dynamic keynote speaker at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He was also the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was born in Hawaii to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister and was raised in Indonesia, Hawaii, and Chicago. His first book, DREAMS FROM MY FATHER: A STORY OF RACE AND INHERITANCE, has been a long time New York Times bestseller.

Obama had already been a national figure for three years, since the Democratic National Convention in 2004, by the time the biography was changed; he had been a sitting Senator for over two years.
