Does anyone else find it odd that taxpayers would fund such a thing?

Oh, and I hope this will not have any impact on MMP.

I find it even ever the MOST *oddly disturbing* that a F*n 'video game' COST so much to create! While ofttimes then, it isn't ever released and I'm talking specifically about YOU-there: "Duke Nukem *TAKING* Forever"

I don't think Curt has had any direct involvement (especially in a financial sense) in some years.

The loan was apparently part of a package to get 38 Studios to move from Vermont to Rhode Island. Part of the deal (which couldn't have helped the financial situation), was apparently a promise to employ something like ~450 people. RI has apparently been really badly hit by unemployment since 2008.

See some of the comments here:

Heh. The odd thing is that such an active Republican sees no problem in taking taxpayer help when it suits him.

Ohhhh yeah...

Welfare is Bad
but not corporate welfare.

Having the government tell you what do is Bad.
but the lobbied laws of corporations are Good.

The government better stay out of your personal lives.
but the GOP will let you "marry your cousin, but not if he is gay."

Tax Cuts for the Rich are awesome.
tax Burdens for the 99% to keep the wealthy safe in their wealth is allowed.

-----------------------------

and it seems the Facebook IPO is a perfect example - an inside job designed for the insiders funded by the suckers who bought the IPO bull.

-----------------------------

and WTF Tennesee!

http://www.newschannel5.com/story/14643085/police-profiting-...

-----------------------------

the War on Drugs became a vehicle to seize property without due process and keeping it even if innocent - in other words, punishment before trial.

So much for "Innocent before proven guilty."

Thanks, Seth, you got my blood up this morning

Here's a *notion* about those "seizure & forfeiture" BS laws: turn THAT against them perpetrating 'illicit activities' through just such! They are as much subject to prosecution for doing thus, as US 'Citizenry', and even more "so". The 'threshold' should BE with one, lone 'instance' of anything occurring too.

Actually, taxpayers so far have not yet given one thin dime to 38 Studios.

All the deal said was that loans were gaurenteed by the state. At this point, while Curt did bounce a check recently, so far all loan payments have been made.

The taxpayers only get involved if he defaults.

Could happen, but hasn't.

A guaranteed Loan by the Taxpayers is still strange and still taxpayer subsidizing of a private venture.

Actually.... I believe this is the first loan payment. So, yes, 38 Studios hasn't defaulted yet, but none of the loan has been paid off yet either. Bad way to start.

Sure it has. The first payment was late because the check bounced but the second check did not, thus avoiding a default.

That means some of the loan HAS been repaid.

I never said all was hunky dory, just want to make sure the activists have thier facts straight.

Sounds like it's all over but the crying at this point.

Could well be.

I certainly agree that what happened to the Bioware MMO might have been the death knell for that sub-genre even if 38 were chugging along rather nicely.

Worse, my laptop recently died and I will likely replace it with an tablet rather than another PC.

Complete with links to a CNET column making the point that Schilling's a "small government conservative" who saw no problem with taking taxpayer money.

The Job Creation Guaranty Program authorizes the EDC board to approve up to $125 million in loan guarantees for companies with intangible assets. It now has $44.5 million available after the board approved guarantees for 38 Studios, NuLabel Technologies and The Corporate Marketplace, a spokeswoman said

Not exactly spreading that money around to a large pool of companies to create a variety of jobs are they? Pretty stupid form of investment menagement.

In local news today there are rumors that 38 Studios has laid off all employees and RI political resignations are expected.

400 fucking staff? No wonder they went bust. Idiots.

Still at least, like a good self-reliant, go-getting conservative entrepreneur, he took a good few million taxpayer $$$ down with him.

WTF is a Solyndra?

Here's a nice quote from Schilling's blog:

Quote:

“If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.

“A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.”
