Start with using the Battlefield Generator in the files section by RayGun to set up the battlefield.
Each side starts with 7 Infantry, 1 Cavalry, 1 Artillery, 1 General and 3 Command Cards.
Roll for starting player.
Alternate placing units on the board, 1 each, using the following guidelines:
Roll a d6 for unit: 1-2 starts on 1st hex of own side, 3-4 starts on 2nd hex row, and 5-6 starts on 3rd row in. Odd numbers (1,3,5) MUST be placed in open terrain, even numbers (2,4,6) MAY be placed in open or in cover.
Roll a d6 for sector: 1 is left flank, 2 is left or center, 3-4 is center, 5 is center or right, and 6 is right flank.
Alternate placing: infantry, infantry, infantry, artillery, infantry, infantry, cavalry, infantry, infantry, general (cannot start in hex with other units).
Finally, starting with 2nd player, roll 1 battle die and add the unit (Inf, Art, Cav) rolled to your side using the above rules. Crossed Sabers adds a General, and a Flag gives an additional card to your hand. (If you exceed your troop limit, re-roll). Do this 3 times for each player!
