anyone ever take the train from the UK to Essen? What was it like?

Seems like a pretty civilised way to go.

Thanks.

The first time I went to Spiel (about 7-8 years ago) I went by train.
I consider it very civilized.
Eurostar to Brussels (Süd), then Thalys to Köln (Messe-Deutz)and, finally, ICE to Essen Hbf. (Overnight coach to London, though soblue)
Coming back I used a DR double-deck train between Essen and Köln.

The real trouble was lugging a, very, large bag of loot!

We do over night ferry newcastle to ansterdam, train Amsterdam to Essen (1 change which is actually very easy). Nice and relaxed and with an idea bag and a small trolley you can carry all your games back!
