My reading of the story seems to make me think that the other mice - near and in in the big tree - are:

1) other people who have been turned into mice
2) "normal" mice who are somehow viewed differently by our heroes after their transformation

I am not sure which. Someone has already commented how the heroes, possibly through force of will, perhaps did not become "fully" mouselike, keeping walking upright, opposable thumbs, tool usage, language, etc. So how could they talk to "real" mice. I think in later stories all the other special mice, like Lily, must turn out to be transformed humans as well.

Does anyone have a different interpretation yet?

Could the designer spill the real story?

The framing story is about Daz Bellows talking to young Tip: the story being played out in the game is a story told by one intelligent, somewhat humanlike mouse to another. Consult page 1 of the storybook (and note the illustration).

So naturally, the mice in their stories would also be intelligent and humanlike. The same would naturally go for humans-turned-mice. I would expect that the other mice are just regular mice. Regular in that they are intelligent, use tools, have beds and little mouse spectacles, etc...

This sounds awesomer and awesomer (despite "awesomer" not being a real word) - I wonder how long it'll be before I cave in and pay the horrendous shipping costs for a preorder?

Awesomer most certainly is a word! At least in my dictionary!

The mice heroes in M&M live in an enchanted world where mice talk and wear clothes. No real explanation for it.

Hang on...

Our heroes are humans turned into mice, but in a story being told by a naturally anthropomorphic mouse?

This begs more questions.

From the point of view of the mouse storyteller, is the story about humans turning into mice...

1) a made-up fable?
2) a history of a real event?
3) an origin story for his race of anthropomorphic mice?

Thanks, Jerry.

Since there is magic in the human realm, it is a fantasy world to start with, so mice being different from those in the real world we game players know is no problem. Good stuff. I pre-ordered and look forward to the game.

Tip is Nez's grandson. Daz is telling his son a story about his granddaddy. So you know that at least in Nez's case, for some reason that only I know, he never goes back to being human.

Thankyou! This sounds like (3), an origin story. This pleases me. :)

Jerry, I've just realised you are the game designer. And, may I say, a tease.

Oh, sounds like a love story is to be found at some point... Makes the game even more interesting, my granddaughters would really enjoy that aspect.
