Here's a handy utility that shows local transit times, and the apparent track of Venus across the sun's disk.

I think I may do the same thing

I'm pretty geeked about this honestly.. sadly, I think I'll be stuck at work at the time it all happens. Although it is my birthday too so I should just take that day off

I've seen your future and . . . well . . . I'd better not say anything else on that note.

Except goo "Beware of pulled pork sandwiches!" goo

Great, I just put dry rub and injected two pork butts that I'll be smoking tonight/tomorrow morning for my son's 5th birthday party on Saturday. Could you at least have the decency to tell me if I should blow off the rest of the day at work? I'm tired and, frankly, if I'm going to die tomorrow, I have better things to do than the stuff at my office.

I'm sitting here trying to sing The Last Transit of Venus to the tune of The Last Train to Clarksville. It's not working.

Have you tried: "Midnight Train to Georgia"

I would try but I am so little musical aptitude I've been told I can't carry a tune in a bucket, and that was at church.

This makes two once in a lifetime events for the week. Venus' transit plus my wife actually ran the dishwasher. Ok, I'm exaggerating. She ran the dishwasher once in 1996 too.

Watch the last transit of Venus,
And I'll meet your rubber nation
We could dance in sideways train cars,
Mogadishu salivation,
Don't be slow.
Oh no no no
Oh no no no

You're right.

It worked fine for me but you have to allow your browser to track your location. If it is turned off it may not work for you.

In IE it is under Tools, Internet Options, Privacy Tab.

Make sure the box next to Never allow websites to track your location is NOT checked.

Could you maybe try to work the phrase "injected pork butts" in there, too?

Sadly, the Seattle area is slated to experience some overcast skies on Tuesday, so I guess we'll have to check out the NASA live webcast after dinner.

My telescope was all set up
My friends say that I am a twit,
I've got the camera on and rolling,
It's Venus in transit

best I can do

I don't see a box for that on IE8. Dumb app design to not allow you to tell it where you are.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

Using Chrome I get the borders of the page, but the middle says "Not found, try searching", and none of the links work.

NEVER LOOK THROUGH A TELESCOPE AT THE SUN. USE A SOLAR FILTER. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING ... DON'T TRY IT.

The transit finished about an hour ago, and I got to see about two thirds of it from Melbourne, Australia. Scattered cloud kept interfering with the view, but considering the leaden skies we've had for about a month, I think we were lucky.

Had my scope out for most of it - tried a few "hold iPhone at the eyepiece" snaps ... they came out pretty ordinary, but better than I was expecting! The blue/grey thing is the sun - the mylar solar filter turns it that colour.

Half way through the transit, 77x magnification.

Approaching 3rd contact (egress), 49x magnification.

Two minutes from 3rd contact (egress), 105x magnification.

About a minute past 3rd contact... leaving the sun's disk. 105x magnication.

My photon bucket vs the enemy (clouds). There is a 99.9% solar film filter on the front of the telescope.

I saw it at the Melbourne Observatory site. Quite a nice turnout, with maybe a dozen 'scopes set up.
