Can anyone explain what function "Squidlord" serves? I'm noticing a large number of ads here lately that link out to what seems to be some sort of self-publishing ebook portal.

Writing quality aside, does anyone know what "Squidlord" is doing for these self-pub authors that they couldn't do themselves? The overall quality and feel of the Squidlord's presentation is (IMO) rather amateur-looking... But as someone who's batting about the idea of self-publishing myself, I don't want to ignore options and make a snap judgement.

I don't have adblock and I don't think I've ever seen a "squidlord" ad.

It's those random, pictures of fantasy or sci-fi characters with no title, description, or anything. The "Squidlord.com" thing is a tiny tag outside the picture in close to size 4 font.
