My work colleagues and I have got into the habit of playing Dixit during our lunch break. To add a bit of variety, I'm looking for an alternative.

- I am a Euro-gamer and my colleagues are non-gamers (they don't play any board-games at all including monopoly etc. and are nervous of looking foolish).
- There is usually a group of around 6 players (2 men; 4-5 women). Playing in teams is fine.
- We have no space for a large board.
- We need a social game we can play in 20-30 minutes (including set-up and putting-away).

They LOVE Dixit.

I would try The Resistance or Wits & Wagers. Telestrations is also fun but maybe a bit boisterous for the office environment. Should be plenty of reviews out there on these to see if they would fit the bill. Resistance seems a bit daunting at first, but once it gets started it is easy to figure out and plays quickly.

Yes, I know a proper 18XX tile should have a tile number.

Do they need to be social/party games, or would any short filler fit your needs?

Wits & Wagers Family
Apples to Apples
Citadels
6 nimmt! (or one of the many close clones like Slide 5)
Saboteur
Money!
Villa Paletti
That's Life!
Cosmic Wimpout (or one of the many push-your-luck dice clones, perhaps Martian Dice.)
Fluxx or one of the dozens of rethemes

+1 for Wits and Wagers. Great with 6 players and can be played during a lunch break. I've always had success playing Wits and Wagers with non-gamers.

+1 Wits and Wagers. It's the perfect game for the scenario you describe - a social game playable solo or in teams with a mix of gamers and non-gamers that everyone will enjoy.

Only thing about Wits and Wagers is that some of it may be a bit Ameri-centric in the questions. Not sure about availability/accessibility in UK but a great game.

There's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake.

The UK edition of Wits and Wagers is called Gambit 7. And it's very good too.

The best games you can introduce to your group, literally, are:

Wits & Wagers (+1)
Say ANything
The Resistance
No Thanks!
Lascaux (similar to No Thanks but with a few more pieces)
Apples To Apples
For Sale
High Society
Botswana

And starting with a 'C' there's:

Carcassonne
Coloretto
Chaos
Chronicle
Citadels

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was very excited about Attribute only to find it isn't available! Apples to Apples seems a poor substitute. Am I wrong in assuming this?

Gambit 7 (i.e. Wits and Wagers) looks suitable too.

The Resistance didn't capture my attention when I played it, and I don't think my colleagues will buy into the theme (they are mainly young fashion-conscious non-gamer women).

The 20-30 minute rule is really important and there is no space, so Carcassone is out.

You've suggested many more so I have lots more research to do!

The female spies in The Resistance are very fashion-forward. I am sure they would totally relate.

I think I've settled on Saboteur (1+2) to start with. Gambit 7 is now firmly on my radar too. It's a shame Attribute is not available or I'd be getting that. I might wait for an opportunity to get this, rather than compromising with Apples to Apples. I've also come across "Such a Thing" which looks good. Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks for all your other suggestions.

Interesting that you say that - the artist was having a hard time coming up with appropriately futuristic clothes for the illustrations so I sent him a number of pictures links from paris fashion shows as examples.

I have to say this game works very well in a mixed crowd - the sci-fi setting is really whatever you make of it (the theme of being a spy trying not to get caught isn't pasted on - it is how you feel when you play the game)

In German language there is a game called Der wahre Walter it has many things in common with dixit. You could call it Dixit without pictures. But I fear there is no English version...
