Game doesn't exist, designer apparently not returning messages from Kickstarter backers. See other threads if you're interested in people more or less predicting this or a similar outcome.

So yeah, there's no answer to your question right now, but if there was, I'm not sure many would know how to answer it. What do you mean by sub-genre in this context?

If it would be done and shipped and in player's hands, it would be some hybrid between deckbuilding and set collection, with some economics mixed in. But it's not too easy to understand the rules, in my experience, so it's hard to tell.
