Hello Wargamers!

I thought some of you might be able to help me with a task I'm undertaking for my brother-in-law.

He has been the proud owner of an original VW 166 Schwimmwagen for many years but has come to the sad decision to sell it due to personal reasons.

I was wondering if any of you could point me to some websites where military vehicles are discussed/traded/sold.

Of course, if any of you are interested in owning a piece of history (approx. only 150 of these vehicles still exist), just let me know. The price is pretty steep though.

Sorry if this isn't the appropriate forum/place for this request. Moderators, please delete if not appropriate.

Cheers,
Tea

Edited to add photo.

this should do it - the Military Vehicles Preservation Association:
http://www.mvpa.org/

But ask him to take photos if he hasn't already, and please post them.

So just for kicks, what price is he asking?*

*in the mid 1970s Switzerland was advertising for purchase your very own decommissioned Hetzer (yes, they served the Swiss up to then [hell, I saw a Stuart tank in action involving some South American coup attempt in the late '70s-early 80s!]).

There's a guy here in town which has had many historical vehicles over the years. He still has a few rare examples but he really loves his Schwimmwagen and Kubelwagen. I've talked to him about different armored vehicles and his traveles around the world looking for things. He does reenactments and when I asked about having a tank for such events he brought up a good point, you have to be able to transport them to each location, not the easiest thing to do. I hope your friend finds a good home for such a great and unique piece of history.

Yeah it was a tough decision for him. It's been in his family for a long time. They lovingly restored it and enjoy taking it to reenactments. I wish he didn't have to sell it.

Edit: spelling

He could certainly "drive over" to HERE and I'll *swap`em* 'moi' 1971 Opel GT~"as-is" on that! LONG ago, then down around in NW Phoenix, nearby to some 'Canal' in FACT, there was an entire 'hellova'-LOT full of WW2 vehicles of all manner. It mainly was 'Transport' sort, while possibly 'Armor Cars' too. Anybody around there wish to drive around and LOCATE that, there, eh?

EDIT as I just looked over this again on some MAP, and I JUST recalled us being around "Foothills Park" at the time then, so around NW there-abouts.
E2-the 'Canal' was directly NORTH, alongside the street we drove down when we passed that place.

Maybe try contacting VW directly? If they have a company museum or archive they might be interested.

You may want to check Hermann Historica in Germany. They do lots of militaria, and recently did a batch of vehicles. No idea if they only do collections, or if they'd be interested in just one item.

PS: Looks great! Hope you got a chance to ride in it at some point.

along the highway to West Port, then on the RIGHT hand-side there midstways were some "Auto Parts" business with this kind of 'Armor Car' within their "showroom":

Maybe - just maybe - there's a way your brother can 'have his cake & eat it, too": might there be some Museum that would accept it as his permanent-on-lone donation?

Of course, I realize he prob. wants the cash ~ but, again, try selling it to any one of the many Museums around the world: that way everyone including your brother will be always be to enjoy it!
