You can cheat and look at the HTML of a page where the user appears to find out the coding to include in your brackets to represent the "space" needed. I assume this would work just as well for another character such as a period.

Thanks for the idea, but no-go. The HTML code is "& # 4 6 ;" without the spaces. When I use it, it just changes back to a ".".

I sometimes wonder if one of Aldie's big BGG programming regrets is having let user names include all kinds of special characters, while so many other places in the BGG code seem to assume user names are just alphanumeric.
