I know some of this has been asked and answered many times before, but I was enjoying the responses to Blott's geeklist so much and I really wanted to analyse the the answers.
In the absence of someone writing some clever scripts to do so I thought I'd put some polls together to get some answers another way.
I used the answers that some people gave on the geeklist to construct some of these polls, plus some of the BGG game mechanics and category lists.

Interesting poll!

So, with 32 voters Worker Placement is a "runaway leader" in favorite mechanism. I wonder what it is about Worker Placement that clicks so much with people, relative to other mechanisms.

And that is with Worker Placement being the bottom of a big list, which could be hurting it!

Very interesting that you posted this today. Just last night I was looking at my Friendless Stats and the new (to me) stat on mechanics that I like. There were several, such as auction, that I always thought I disliked. It turns out that I do enjoy auction very much, just not when it is the only thing going on. And so just yesterday, I had read through all the mechanics and which games I owned that had each.

Maybe that's kind of a sub-category of "Variable Player Powers"?

Shows how much I pay attention to the 'mechanic' classifications here. There isn't one for 'role selection' which I personally would think is significantly different the 'Variable Player Powers'. But, go figure *shrug*

Apparently the worst game ever would be roll and move combined with singing/acting from memory!

Yeah I was thinking sub-category b/c Role Selection assumes Variable Player Powers, but not the other way around.
But, Role Selection does indeed feel very different than static/game-long VPP.

Great poll as usual!

My favorite theme is not listed: Post-Apocalyptic. Things like Fallout, Jericho, Zombieland (obviously a mix of post-apocalyptic and zombies) represent my favorite theme well.

It's been years since I've played this, but this isn't real roll-and-move, right? Aren't you allowed to modify the movement dice up to a certain amount? By that token I guess Runebound (Second Edition) is technically roll-and-move, despite the huge amount of flexibility it gives you via the terrain dice.

The one R-and-M that was frustrating the heck out of me last week was Talisman (Revised 4th Edition), yeah you can choose backwards or forwards but that's not nearly enough control. I liked most other things about the game though, but that part of it causes the game to really show its age.

Interesting poll.

I just think there should be an option for those of us who don't really mind or depend on theme to enjoy a game...

I don't think there is any theme that would prevent me from playing a game with good mechanisms, or any theme that would make me play a lousy game, for that matter.
I did not vote on either of those.

Also the option "anyone" for those whom we'd like to make gamers out of would also be interesting.

For many people if you roll the dice to figure out movement, it's roll and move no matter how many choices or possible modifications you can have.

But, I agree that to me roll and move is when you roll the dice and move that many spaces and you follow what that space tells you to with any choice on what you are doing (Talisman does give you a couple choices, but it's closer to that end of the spectrum then something like Runebound)

Having genres instead of mechanics would help, and maybe putting them in groups as well - some mechanics don't tell you much, unless you know what genre they're associated with. (A group for party game mechanics, a group for interactive mechanics, a group for wargame mechanics, a group for economic games mechanics, and so on).
