I asked the same question elsewhere on this forum but I think is lacking visibility, so: in your experience what is the average game length using the "famous" 2 players variant(s)?

My wife and I play with the following variants:

- Each player starts with 20 poverty.
- No player may have more than 1 Omnibus in their tableau.

Out games usually take about 60 minutes.

The few times I have played this variant with my wife it took about 75 to 90 minutes, but my wife likes to think things through, so it would probably only take about 60 minutes if you and the person you play with are quick players. In any case, we found this variant works really well for 2 player games.

I had the same idea to increase starting poverty, but I'm guessing even 20 poverty isn't enough to cause any real tension.

With 20, you have to at least pay some attention to it to get rid of it, which is how I like it. It doesn't dominate the game, but it can't be ignored either.
