PBF Game #1 - Homo Geekus

Game has ended! Peter won during Turn 37!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Format: Eras I-IV game
Players: 5
Optional Rules: All + Open Discard piles
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ground Rules
:

Be a nice guy

Orders
: It would help if you would post your orders bold. Always state which player you are. Conditional orders are allowed and can be made publicly or sent to me via Geekmail. If your turn goes over more than one post, a final post recapitulating all your orders (and changes to your sheet) would really help.

Status: I will be updating the game's status (Map, Demography sheets) from time to time. Do check for mistakes.

Cards: I will manage the Decks and send you a geekmail each time you draw a card. I won't be posting pictures of the cards because it would be a real pain to upload them all
When you draw a card, I'll send you something like this:

Silk loom weaving (E1 F3) Nav1 E+ Res(EE) | Fec- mb
Megalith Monument Cul (2) CNHAP | Tuberculosis Imm3

This reflects all the information that you can find on a card. AS it might not be apparent, this is how you read the infos:

Idea Card
:
Name / Purple side / Blue side
ER / EE -> Elder Reset / Elder Expenditure*
E+/- -> Elder Gain / Loss*
Fec+/- -> Fecundity increase / decrease*
[Multiple gains/decreases: Fec2+ / E2+ / ER2 ]
Agr() -> Crop cultivation (Information in brackets: Elder cost and modifiers)
Dom() Hus() -> Animal Husbandry [domestication] (Information in brackets: Elder cost and modifiers)
Res() -> Resource Extraction (Information in brackets: Elder cost and modifiers)
Nav2 -> Advancement: First three letters of the Infrastructure plus the boundary: Foo4, Nav1, Met3, Ene2, Imm3
Barb -> Barbarian Raid
mb -> Cultural Diffusion
Era IV:
Ut(X) -> Utopia action. May subtract up to X from stability roll.
XC -> Draw X cards (I wanted to keep it short but I might still go for XCard)

( ) -> Requirements (Purple side). Those are:
Era I:
a - Alpha (Social knowledge)
H - Hand (Dexterity & Technical)
N - Nut (Natural history knowledge)
! - ! (Language)
Era II+:
F2 : First letter of the Infrastructure + needed position. Here Footprint 2 (F3, N2, M1, E3, I1)

Enc() -> Encephalization (in brackets: instinct made free)

Public Card:
Name / Type, Elder Loss, Facilitated Action and Player identifier / Catastrophe (Which I'll make public after sending you the card)

Type: Adm(Rank), Cul(Rank), Inf(Rank) -> Administration, Culture, Information.

If you want me to change some abbreviations, let me know, glad to do it.

Important: Please check all the infos I send you as I just tipped this in my excel sheet and haven't controlled it yet.

Auctions: Each player bids whenever he wants openly . Try to use this system:
A - no bid yet
H - bids 2
P - bids 3
C - pass
N - bids 1
Where the highest bids of all the players are listed and your bid is in bold.

Time limit: For auctions I'd say 24h after the last bid the auction is over, but if that is too fast we can change it. I'm in no hurry (anyway, auctions in Origins aren't that complicated).

Die rolling
: just use the Forum die roller. (BTW, you can erase a post but the roll is still logged)

Movement: Just describe your movement clearly. A possibility would be to identify the HEx you are moving (in)to with a name and then the clearings with a number 1-6, starting on the upper left one and going clockwise. For example:
Black Sea 1 - Starting position of the Neanderthal
Donkey 4 (or Creta 4 or even Arabia 6) -> Starting position of Archaich Homo Sapiens.
This would mean that a clearing would have up to 3 different names, but it still should be clear. Movement example:
N: Black Sea 1 -> 6 -> 5 -> 4 -> Wheat 5 -> Wheat 4 (Desert spot)

If you've got a better Idea, just do it

Rules: In case of dispute I'll have the final word (after checking the list), but I'll try to be a benevolent dictator.

And of course:

Archaic Homo Sap... not one I commonly play. OK, I will start with the only available Innovation action...

A - Draw new Era I card

Any other actions will have to wait for that...

p.s. why is there some sort of mark around 'my' hindbrain?

The file I got from Phil when I made the gamebox had the small circle, not sure where it comes from.

Re: Origins PBF game #1: Homo Geekus
OK.

Card Dealt - holding in hand

No Catastrophe

No card play (1 card in hand, hand size 1)

No Stability Roll needed

Population action: Population Increase - new Map unit moves to Bristol (Wiesent, NW)

No active Sieges

No starvation

I think that's all OK... it's been longer than I thought since I played this!

Jonathan, are you playing the cards in that order? (I assume yes)
And which sides are you playing (I assume: Blue for Grooming and Purple for Shellfish)

No problem, wanted to be sure

BTW, let me know how often you want a full-blown update. It is quite image heavy so I wanted to avoid posting it every two posts or so

We now Have a Ransackable card:

Shellfish middens (N) Enc(H) | Enc(N) mb [Peking's Deck]

Map:

On to Peter!

Well, this is moving along at a good clip! I'll be gone for most of the day, so, should USRLocal take his turn, I likely won't be able to follow for a time. Hope y'all don't mind.
This is a wonderful service, by the way, Pablo, thank you.

Edit: I'm off to pick up my Days of Decision game so I can set this puppy up- the upshot is you shouldn't worry about updating graphics on my account as I intend to follow along on the board.

What's the accepted etiquette for comments here? I'm already noticing stuff, but I don't want to influence other player actions.

Re: Origins PBF game #1: Homo Geekus
I'm looking at potential player moves & seeing possibilities & problems which may or may not be obvious to the other players. Mentioning them may alert players to things that might not otherwise have considered, and so may disadvantage others.

Nothing important so far, obviously, but I'm asking for future reference. In my FtF games we play very openly and discuss each other's potential moves & actions, which would not be welcomed in all groups.

Just amending that a bit: you are in Era I, so be careful not to make comments that can be interpreted as negotiation!
