I'm on vacation in northern Germany, spending most of my time in and around Oldenburg. I will also be in Hamburg for a day or so, before I fly out of Hamburg airport.

I've visited a few game/toy stores in the smaller towns outside of Oldenburg, and they have pretty much just been toy stores that sell playmobil, legos, trains, etc. Their game selection is 95% kids' games. Ravensburger, Kosmos, lots of American garbage like Monopoly gulp and Uno shake. So I was able to pick up Loopin' Louie and Kakerlakenpoker, but I still haven't found where the heck they sell the meatier or more grown-up games. Granted, I haven't been to Oldenburg itself. I'm headed into the city later today.

Does anybody know of a good games store in Oldenburg, or can you guide me in finding one? Should I be looking for some other type of store rather than a spieleladen? Do they call game stores something different? Should I be looking in comic book stores?

Any help is appreciated, and I'll take answers in German or English. Vielen Dank!

Hi Michelle,
Yes its not easy to find a good game-shop in a german city. As you have noticed, most of the shops sell only family-blockbuster like Monopoly, Scotland Yard, and stuff like that.
I have never been to Oldenburg but I have heard about a store called "anspielbar" from some friends who live in Oldenburg.
Here is the Internet-link:
http://anspielbar.karstenlege.de/index.phtml

And there is another store that looks good in my opinion:
http://comicbuchundspiel.de/

I hope this will help you.
This is my first post here and I hope my English is not too bad :-)

many greetings from Göttingen

Hi there,

i dont have a clue about stores in Oldenburg, but when you are in Hamburg you can visit www.magierspiele.de their store is located there.

You might want to move/repost this in GameGroups -> Europe -> Germany

Or if you come to Bremerhaven (wich is really worth a visit, especially the German Emigration Center), you could also visit the "Spielspaß"

Thanks, it's good to know I'm not the only one who has trouble finding the good games. And don't worry, your English is perfect, definitely better than my German. But after being here a week, I'm finding it harder to switch back over to English, and would rather speak and write in German.

Thanks for the +1 for Comic Buch und Spiel. I had originally overlooked that one when I was looking through the yellow pages. I will definitely check it out.

I'm not sure if I'll have time in Hamburg for game shopping (I will be with my parents then, in a shared rental car) but I will put Atlantis on my list if I get the chance.

Thanks, I might not make it to a game shop with the limited time I have in Hamburg, but if I do, I will check out Magier Spiele.

Thanks also for the forum tip. I think I have enough options for Oldenburg now, but I'll keep it in mind for next time. I'm not very familiar with the forums here.

You know, I was thinking about visiting the Emigration Center this Friday, actually. You're the third person to recommend it. I will check out Spielspaß if we do end up going. Thanks!

Have a look at Karstadt or Kaufhof if within reach, most store a decent selection of Games, and I have found some nice bargains there a few times (Batavia + Industria for EUR 5 each)
