So a big fire started on the mountainside near our house two days ago and very quickly spread up the mountain. We were told to immediately evacuate from out neighborhood. We have a 72 hour grab-and-go bag, which we threw into the car but my wife asked me to also grab a few suitcases. "Good idea!" I said. I grabbed four and gave her one, which she filled with picture albums, toiletries, and some of her favorite clothes. I, on the otherhand, went straight to the game room and filled the other three suitcases with my favorite boardgames.

Was I in the wrong?

Not even close! I only grabbed the ones that hit the table most often or that are personal favorites of mine.

You're really not all geek - you gave her one suitcase.

I hope it was the smallest one.

Hope your house is OK!

After reviewing another thread about a disaster, I've been giving some serious consideration to adding a rider to my home owner's insurance. I guess it depends on the cost whether I go for it or not.

No. We got two freak rainstorms today and that may have done the trick. It almost never rains in Utah in July so this was truly amazing! I'm going to take a closer look when the sun goes down to see if I can see any fire. The firemen are gone for now so that is a good sign.

I feel your pain. I hope you made out OK, though I would have left the cat.

We do our annual fire drill on the 4th.
Wife and kids out? Wife getting pictures? Grab my computer and then go into the basement and start chucking games out the window.

A number of years ago we had to evacuate for a fire. Four people, 2 cats & 1 dog in 3 cars. My car was %100 filled solely with wargames. All turned out well. Another fire about 2 years ago might have come to another evacuation. I had added close to 1000 Euro games. The evacuation plan was the same, save only wargames.
