Imagine...

A planet where global warming actually happens...

Where government officials can rub their grubby little hands in glee as they count the extra tax revenue wrung from the struggling producers...

More Government Power Now!

One World Government Now!

Muwahahahahaha!

(War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.)

Personally, I like Brave New World better than 1984.

I don't recall any religion in 1984. Besides the Two-Minute Hate, of course.

Is this from the CO2 game forums? I've been wondering how long before we saw threads from there.

We need a "I firmly believe God wouldn't let global warming happen so scientists are lying commies" microbadge. Then we could just avoid all of these threads.

Love the "I believe in Inteligent Design" badge.

As a fan of Orwell it really pains me to see him quoted in such a ridiculous context.

I just Googled and found a quote where O'Brien asks Winston Smith if he believes in God. I need more Googling or re-reading to see if Tje subject comes up when Winston is talking to Julia. (And I'm not going to I'm afraid.)

No, just to Winston but all he says about God is that "God is power."

"I got all my science from ID proponents" would do fine too.

So the American Civic Religion qualifies in your view but the mentality depicted in 1984 doesn't? What definition are you using?

You don't think that mentality is encompassed in the Two Minutes Hate?

CO₂ - I got into this thread because of a subscription to that game.

It's not surprising to me that people who believe in fairy tales don't believe in global warming.

Would it surprise you that people who believe in fairy tales do believe in global warming?

This is a choice gem. Even with regulation, taxes, high fuel prices and constant litigation, they are still able to pull off a 12% net profit (at least in the U.S.) which is pretty damn good for most industries in this economy.

Nope, not at all. I'm not surprised in general when people who believe in one thing believe in something else as well. Scientists tend to not believe in anything, but always question everything and then work with what seems most probable given the data.

The thing is that global warming is not something you can believe in or not, it's just a proven fact. Now as to the cause of global warming, there's plenty of different options.

I don't think so. He said they were struggling and he said the government gets tax revenue from them. Doesn't sound like business owners at all!
