Computer that could outlive the universe a step closer
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn22028-computer-that-co...

The heat-death of the universe need not bring an end to the computing age. A strange device known as a time crystal can theoretically continue to work as a computer even after the universe cools. A new blueprint for such a time crystal brings its construction a step closer.

New Scientist usually reports on things that are fairly grounded in science, but this sounds pretty far out.

So to live forever all we would need to do is find a way to put our minds inside a computer. Child's play, if you buy into a lot of the sci out there ;-)

Not true. Faires can only live as long as we believe in them. So once we die, they die.

Even the universe has to follow the rules.

Try J M Barrie (you normally prefer the original source, don't you)

Hm, yeah, the Big Rip will be a problem.

So you could survive heat death but not the big rip. But you would have a trillion years, and then we could all have a Big Rip Party.
