Hi, I bought a 17x22 in Lexan to flatten the maps but my laser pointer do not reflect on it... is it too thin (1/8) or I need a Plexiglass ?

Thanks !

You need a piece of thin thread

My favorite is a badge-holder with the pull-out string. I got 2 for 99 cents.

You need a higher power laser and a pair of goggles.

Unfortuanately, I don't think it will be any better for you with plexiglass. The pull out badge holder device mentioned earlier really is, IMO, the best solution. I have several laser devices I have used for LOS but none work well with plexigalss.

Playing a game...is that really necessary?
The simplest solution is not always the most creative one you know

I've had good success with a laser level that creates a line. I use plastic from a poster frame, which is probably a bit thinner. I haven't tried with the plexi that I have, so it may diffuse the laser too much. But, it works with the poster frame.

Forgive my ignorance, but why and how would one use a laser pointer in this game?

I have seen badge-holder style retractable lines snap over stacks of counters and it's not pretty. A mutually-agreed upon thread is a reasonable low-tech solution; however, pregame agreement is required because of variable thread diameters, especially in a tournament setting.

One wouldn't.

A laser pointer keeps its beam (somewhat) focused to project the beam as a dot into the distance.

A (consumer) laser level fans or spreads its beam to project a line on the surface as a reference. This is the tool that used the various links to draw a thin red LOS beam on a map.

I wonder if part of the OP's problem is using the wrong tool rather than the lexan or plexi used to cover the map.

I use a laser level and flatten my map with a sheet of plexi glass, works great! Like Rpardoe said, you might be using the wrong tool.

My cheap laser level works great with or without lexan or plexi. After you use one I doubt you will be satisfied with thread in future.

I used one for a short while and found it too bulky and awkward to use other than as a gimmick. A retractable badge holder is the right size, is easy to carry with the game, and a perfectly satisfying thread to use.

For checking line of sight. Use the type of laser that draws a line on a surface and line it up between the firing and target hexes.

The lasers would work much better if they had fricken sharks attached to them.

My friends and I use retractable pencil holders. They are cheap and you can get them at any Home Depot or Lowes store.

The best results of using a laser pointer is for those moments when the opposing player does some extremely lucky move and then gloats over zealously. Point the laser at his eyes and laugh in some mad tyrannical way as he screams for mercy.

I know that's just meant as a joke, but in all seriousness, please don't point a laser anywhere close to anyone's eyes.
