Hey all,

First, a quick thanks to the community. I've been a lurker on this site for several years, and have definitely taken more than I have given.

I've been racking my brain for the last couple of weeks trying to decide what game I should get next. My problem is, my tastes in gaming are pretty broad; I enjoy relatively heavy euros like Agricola or Troyes, but I also have a blast with theme heavy ameritrash like BSG or Cosmic Encounter. Here are some games I've been looking at:

- The Castles of Burgundy
- Trajan
- Ora et Labora
- Le Havre
- Merchants and Marauders
- Cyclades
- Betrayal at House on the Hill
- Space Alert

Whenever I pick a new game, I try to fill "experience gaps", and try not to double up too much on similar games. That being said, I've fallen prey to the hype train on occasion. This will be my last game purchase of the year, so I really want it to be a stellar one. So what do you think? Are any of the games above "must haves"? Are there any glaring omissions in my collection? I'm totally open to other suggestions as well.

A link to my collection: http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/webHead?own=1&subty...

Thanks!

Shock and dismay! THE last? There is so much of the year left to be spent. You must be sparing yourself for a heavy holiday season?

Looking at your game collection....

How do you feel about: Village? Seems like it might be a nice fit.

I'll add a +1 for Arkham Horror and Eclipse, definitely.

I'll agree that Cyclades is an excellent game.

I'd add to your considerations Defenders of the Realm and Chaos in the Old World.

Have fun!

Oh wow, do you guys ever work fast. Lots more to consider...

Re: Arkham Horror and Eclipse, I feel that those might be a little rules heavy for my gaming group. They typically tend to enjoy games with relatively simple mechanics, yet with room to explore and master different strategies. That being said, I'll take a closer look at them.

Village looks really interesting! From what I understand, availability through my FLGS is still uncertain atm.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Keep em comin'!

Here's something completely different: Tales of the Arabian Nights. You need a story-telling game!

Good luck with your search!

Eclipse isn't that bad really. My group likes lighter games to and they could handle it.

Here's a great light game you must own.. King of Tokyo

Another lighter game that my group just loves is Discworld: Ankh-Morpork.

Of the ones you listed:

Merchants and Marauders - Scales well (2+), can be played as a pure euro economic game or interactive cutthroat, lots of fun

Cyclades - doesn't scale as well but is a quick game and a ton of fun, while never NOT being a Euro. Easy to teach to others

Betrayal at House on the Hill is way past the hype stage, so it must be a classic - I'd go for that one.

Wow, so many replies in a single day. That's why the BGG community rocks. Looks like I came in hoping to narrow down my choices, but ended up walking away with more titles to look at! First world problems...

Lots of love for Eclipse... checked with my FLOGS and they won't get the next printing until the Fall. Sigh.

+1 Eclipse

Of the 7 you specifically mentioned, I've played Trajan, Ora et Labora, Le Havre, Cyclades, and Space Alert.
+1 Trajan: Outside of Eclipse, Trajan is the best game I've played in years. I'm a huge Feld fan (although I haven't played Burgundy yet) and I generally enjoy his games.
+1 Ora et Labora: This would be my 2nd choice. If you enjoy really delving into a plethora of different strategies, then this is a great game. My problem is that I have too many games, and Ora hasn't made it to the table enough to really learn into.
Le Havre is decent, but I prefer Ora. They're relatively similar, and it doesn't sound like you're the type of gamer that would need both in your collection.

I wasn't a fan of Cyclades or Space Alert...

Trajan is a masterpiece. Amazing depth, a variety of paths to victory, scales well, yet can play quickly. Played a 2p game of this the other night in 35 minutes.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I went with Eclipse, a game I hadn't even considered for my shortlist. But after the numerous recommendations, and watching UndeadViking's 1 hour+ overview, I knew I was missing that sort of epic game in my collection.

Now to find a big chunk of time to get this to the table for our first game...
