Really seems like it is necessary to have all the cards visible so that you can keep all options fresh. Anyone know where to buy a nice card holder?

Perfect, I own it and it is not on my hot list right now. Wow, nice high backs, perfect.

Thanks Chad, ingenious indeed.

Thanks, I surfed Amazon and wasn't impressed though my favorite was the one you linked.

In a perfect world I'd like it to be wooden, thin and made of two or three peices to allow for flexibility based on hand size for each player and game.

Chad's solution is a great one.

I know a game store here in Omaha that has a long, slightly rounded, thin wooden one if you want me to find out the manufacturer of it. I estimate it to be about 12", long and about 1/2" thick max.

They are very similar to this:

Build them out of Lego. This also serves as an inherent game timer - you know the game is playing too slow if someone pulls their card holder to bits and starts making something else.

I do, and I've found one significant problem with them: they're very light so that they're easy to knock over. Sooner or later I'll be investing in wooden card holders for my CCE and CCP sets.

Here are the ones we use and like, large and heavy, holding either cards, or, if you play, dominoes. Good value, two of 'em for less than $8, and free shipping if you order other stuff to a value of $25.

Though it is not obvious from the photo, each slot has both a deep, narrow part to hold cards perfectly, and a wider, shallower region for dominoes.

http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Dominoe-Racks-Jumbo-Tiles/dp/B...

We have never, ever, been able to knock one over.

Thanks Chick, that detail is helpful. So far I have been very please with Chad's rec which was also free for me since I own and never really play Ingenious in cardboard (the iPad implementation is strong)...

I'm not sure if that link is to the wrong item or if they changed the product, but I ordered these and they do not have a narrow slot for cards. They only have the channel for dominoes and cards will not stand up in them. Hopefully this can prevent anyone else from buying something that won't work.

I'm still looking for a reasonably priced solution, but I think I might end up just making one myself.

If you search around on the internet, you can find plastic card racks from various companies that make them for people who have arthritis, mobility problems, etc.

For example:

http://www.lifesolutionsplus.com/plastic-card-holder-p-206.h...
or
http://www.sportaid.com/plastic-playing-card-holder.html

I bought a similar item from a store in Canada, and they work really well.
