I have only played 2 of these games, and those are also the only two I own: Race Day and Xēko Mission: Madagascar

This is the category I'm least interested in, but I would really like to try The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game at some point.

To pull up the list of the top 100 customizable games:

Inspired by the wargames and thematic games forums...

33, if I'm remembering correctly. (There might be a few others that I tried once or twice, but didn't make an impression.)

I hadn't noticed how many games were mis-categorized, though. I understand why Warhammer 40K is there, actually: I usually categorize it as a wargame myself, but you do design a "deck" before each game. But I don't know of any variants in Bandai's deck-building games that make them qualify as customizable.

This has been discussed some before, but basically the categories are determined by voting on the game's page. Click the VOTE button in the category section to indicate what you think is the best fit. If enough people vote some of those as Strategy instead of Customizable, then it will drop the lesser category.

EDIT PS: 63, by that list.

EDIT2: woops, for some reason I thought it was top 200. My 63 is in the top 200. No, not going to recount for 100

13 played of 26 owned, and 4 more on order, going by the current list. Although I also don't feel the deckbuilding games are customizable games.

0. And that's 0 out of the top 200. Found it interesting that I've played 100's of games and never one of these. I must have a compulsion to stay away from anything collectable.

You own some, including Twilight Imperium Armada and Stratego: Legends. Not that I don't own plenty of games I haven't played...

Of the list as strictly written 24.

That's a crap list though as I wouldn't consider several of those customizable - and if they were, then there are dozens that should be on that list that aren't because they aren't properly categorized.

Also, I don't think it is really relevant to put customizable miniatures games on the same list as customizable card games - they have little or no crossover or mechanical similarities.

Though there are entries in there I wouldn't consider appropriate for that list.

I think they have similar audiences: people who want to build a stable of stuff, that they select their customized "army" from before each game. Many non-historical miniatures games do this, not just customizable minis games, which is why I don't really object to Warhammer 40K being on the list. Deck building games don't do this at all, so I think they don't belong.

I think at this point the categories have settled around user interests. The thing that ties together family games is not a set of mechanics or components, but the type of people who might play this: people who like fairly light games that can be enjoyed by a wide age range. Strategy games (for purposes of BGG subdomains) are ones for people who like complex rules and low randomness. That doesn't mean that someone who likes one strategy game will necessarily like all the other ones, but it does give a better place to start looking.
