* The buttering the stomach and dropping them thing
* The inherent strong-force relationship between fresh hairballs and newly donned socks.
* The number of licks it takes to get to the center of the universe thing.

I like how his name is an amalgamation of James Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes. I'm not sure it means anything, but there you go.

I remember once seeing a study of juvenile delinquency in cats. It was horribly cruel but quite interesting. Basically they had a little cattle prod like thing hooked up to the mother cat, and by giving her painful zaps they could condition her to get angry when her children did one thing or another, thus they could create kittens whose mothers had been incompetent in different ways, then they would study how that early parenting affected the kittens when they became adult cats. The hope of course was that this type of study would give us clues as to how parenting in humans affects behavior of the children after they grow up. The worry of course is that cats' brains might be different enough from humans to invalidate the research, meaning that a few hundred cats were tortured for no benefit.

So there you go. Psychology research using cats.

I didn't need any type of study to know that the cat I had growing up was pure evil. Siamese cat from the depths.
