The Alpha 3 rules say, "A quick reaction team of no more than 3 defending fighters and tactical bombers." Does this mean that a total of 3 air units can scramble, or that 3 of each type of air unit can scramble (meaning a total of six air units)?

And it's a total of three from EACH airbase, in situations where more than one territory with an airbase is adjacent to a sea zone.

An example would be SZ109. If the a UK fleet is attacked there, fighters and/or tactical bombers from BOTH United Kingdom and Scotland could scramble (3 aircraft each for a total of 6 aircraft).
