Orri's Storm (Battle of Stamford Bridge 1066) is now available from Wargame Downloads, redone in the style of the Hastings release.

There are some small change to the 1st and 2nd editions as follows;

Most importantly, the potential Lull phase has gone from the sequence of play. This was a hangover from the Senlac game and does not really have any justification to be in Orri's Storm in the way that was integral to the historic Hastings account.

The Viking Hirdmenn 'berserk' rules are now much more gentle. Basically they cause a +1 combat modifier (not +2) and disordered units cannot go berserk, even against the attack that caused the disorder result. (though the ability to still use those rules is protected in the section covering optional rules, should players feel the Vikings need more oooomph :smile: )

The main impact on the game will be that the Viking player has to more carefully plan when to call their berserk attack, as they must now do this before too many of the Orri reinforcements become disordered - especially as fatigue means the disorder cannot be removed from turn 7 onwards.

Under the old rules, a largely spent Orri force could become berserk and this tended to undermine the intention of the exhaustion rule .... though it gave the Viking player a hell of a kick back capability on the last turn or so.

Overall, this gives a better historical feel but does slightly work against Viking player, accordingly, players may agree to choose one of the several optional rules if they feel that they want to give the Viking side some help.

So not too much rule tinkering and this game remains a hack and slash, high casualty, dynamic game as a complete alternative to the grinding uphill assault represented in the Hastings game.
