In a bizarre stroke of luck, I found this at a local car boot sale just last week, and picked it up for £1!

It's missing the rulebooks and a few of the cards, but the counters are mostly there and the siz plastic titans are all present. Sadly they've been painted with some medium the same consistancy of bitrumen, but I'll give them a soak in brake fluid and see what happens.

On the my question: In later editions of White Dwarf and in the catalogues there were more weapon options available in metal: Devotional bells, banners, grappling hooks and the like.

So where were the (1st edition) rules for these?

The rules for those weapons/devices are in Epic, the follow on game to AT. The rules would have to be converted back into the AT system.

Rules for these weapons in Adeptus Titanicus were printed in White Dwarf 133.

Nice link, thanks!

We need an Epic/Titanicus wiki on BGG, I think...

Given that these rules are in White Dwarf, does this mean you had to have that issue to play titans in Epic? I know the two weren't 100% compatible (at least at first).

The rules in the white dwarf 133 are for a different set of rules. They are not compatible with adeptus titanicus. That white dwarf was released the same year as the armies of the imperium boxed set and are intended to work with the titan rules provided in the 2nd editition boxed set.

Not exactly.
Every WD article prior to White Dwarf # 141 was written for 1st edition Space Marine and/or Adeptus Titanicus, which were compatible game systems. There was a plethora of additional rules added through White Dwarf magazine after the release of Codex Titanicus (WD 120 {Dec '89}- WD140 {Aug'91}.
Codex Titanicus was cut and punched to be in a ring-binder, (as were Space Marine{Oct'89} and Adeptus Titanicus) and these add'l WD rules were meant to be added to the ring binder.

Presumably:
at some point GW would have collected these into a single Codex-like addendum,
had they not decided to re-write the rules into the more infantry friendly 2nd edition.
Articles expanding the rules include:

White Dwarf # 116{Aug'89}-117{Sept'89} featured a preview of 'Codex Titanicus: New Rules for for epic scale Imperial, Ork, and Eldar Armoured vehicles and infantry. Preliminary rules for landing pods & Drop Ships, Imperial Transports, and Imperial, Ork, and Eldar Data cards.

I note that the rules in WD 116-117 and the actual Published Codex Titanicus have a lot of the exact same material, but not exactly. The WD articles have a few more bits 7 extras not published in the Codex.
I suspect Codex Titanicus came out September '89.

White Dwarf # 120 featured 'War Machines: New Epic Scale Imperial, Ork, and Eldar Vehicles for Space Marine and Adeptus Titanicus
{preliminary rules for Imperial: 'Glaive' (later renamed the BaneBlade), 'Falchion' (later renamed the ShadowSword, manticore Gorgon, Basilisk, Bombard, HellBore. Ork: 'Big BattleWagon' (later renamed the SkullHamma) and Eldar tempest tanks.

White Dwarf # 122 had a blurb in the 'news' section concerning new one man titans ( see: 'Knights' in WD 126) It also had catalog (photo) pages for Imperial Tanks (HellBore, Imperial Heavy Transport (e.g. 'Capitol Imperialis'), ShadowSword, BaneBlade, Manticore, Basilisk, Gorgon, Bombard, Leman Russ, Whirwind, Predator, Vindicator, Termite, and Mole Tanks, and metal Robots & Dreadnoughts, Land Speeder, Tarantula, Jet Bike, Rapier MoleMortar, & Thudd Gun infantry support weeps)

White Dwarf # 123 Codex Titanicus errata: 'WarMachines' adding revised stats for the new (metal) Imperial Baneblade (nee 'Glaive'), Shadowsword, (nee 'Falchion') Manticore, Gorgon, Basilisk, Bombard, Leman Russ, Predator, Rhino, Land Raider, Vindicator, Termite, Whirlwind, Mole, Hellebore and Capital imperials (nee 'Imperial Heavy Transport'). Also revised stats/erratta for the Eldar Tempest, and the Ork Gutrippa, BoneCruncha, SpleenRippa, and SkullHamma (nee 'Big BattleWagon')

White Dwarf # 124 featured 'Epic Imperial Guard', introducing the new IG (plastic) sprues, and adding Codex Titanicus errata for the Ork BowlBurn, GobSmasha, BrainCrusha, and GibletGrinda (metal) tanks.

White Dwarf # 125 featured 'How to Design Imperial Guard Regiments for Space Marine'; exhaustive rules, organization templates & detachment counters for the new Epic Imperial Guard (plastic) sprues & (metal) imperial vehicles.

White Dwarf # 126 featured 'How to Design Marine Regiments in the Horus Heresy' Space Marines; exhaustive rules, organization templates & detachment counters for the new Epic Space Marine (plastic) sprues & (metal) imperial vehicles.

White Dwarf # 126 also featured " Knights: New Epic Scale War Machines for Eldar and Human Forces'; exhaustive rules organization templates & detachment counters for the new (Metal) Knight models

White Dwarf # 128 'How to Design an Epic Ork Horde'; exhaustive rules organization templates & detachment counters for the new 'Ork Invasion' and Stomper plastic sprues.

White Dwarf # 131 featured 'Designing a Chaos Horde'; exhaustive rules organization templates & detachment counters for the new Chaos Marine, Stomper and Imperial Guard plastic sprues.

White Dwarf # 132 featured 'Epic Realm of Chaos: Daemons and their Conjuration'
adding rules for greater and lesser chaos daemons (metal) in 1st ed.

White Dwarf # 133 featured 'New Warlord Titan Weapons and Equipment'
including rules & points for the pewter Heads, Arms, Tails, and other Weapons.

White Dwarf # 136 featured a battle report of Marines vs Orks,

White Dwarf # 140 had a Back Cover photo of an award winning 1st ed epic Battleforce

White Dwarf # 141 introduced Second Edition Space Marine, ending the 1st edition era.
