If you need to move a picture because it is in the wrong game, the best way to to simply post a correction on the wrong game in which the image now resides. In the admin note add link to the picture that needs to be moved, and the gallery to which it should be moved.

Example:

The following image should not be connected to this game:
http://boardgamegeek.com/image/#####/wrong_game_name

Please move it to this gallery:
http://boardgamegeek.com/images/thing/#####/right_game_name

---

I mistakenly linked the pictures to the right game through the mod process, and then asked admin for the "link" to be removed from the wrong game.

All "links" are not created equal!

There is a different between a link to an image and the gallery in which the image resides. So I wasted the moderators time, and made admin do double work.

The ability to link images among game entries has probably sprung more problems than solutions it has created. One persistent problem is that users upload images to their personal gallery and then link them to game galleries. This bypasses GeekMod and all of the checks that are supposed to be in place that look to the image submission guidelines, but this also generates confusion when a user clicks on one of the so-linked images, because the user ends up in the uploader's image gallery, not in the gallery of images for the game.

From an organizational standpoint, it is best to have the image in the gallery of the game that it most represents, and links to other games should be used sparingly.

for image moves it's best to supply the link to the image
and
the link to the new / correct destination

it's saves us time and we move the image to the correct location

Bob,

I guess I still don't quite understand since I've never actually done the move. I'm trying to figure what is absolutely the least work for an admin.

So it would be best to submit a correction on the "bad" game's page and supply a link to the image to be moved and a link to the new game's picture gallery?

So put the following in the admin comments on a correction to the wrong_game_name:

The following image should not be connected to this game:
http://boardgamegeek.com/image/#####/wrong_game_name

Please move it to this gallery:
http://boardgamegeek.com/images/thing/#####/right_game_name

that would be great thumbsup

then all we do is clicks, no searches
the move involves the object type .. thing (games) family, person, company, user
and the proper destination ID number, we get that from the link

if we don't know the object type, maybe we should not be wearing admin badges

some users just provide the Image ID number ex: 792167
in the correction notes ...
I format the image so I can click the image and use the edit feature to move the image

I agree with Bob, having links is easiest to deal with.

"Please move

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/1086904/blokus-duo

to

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2453/blokus"

would be a pretty quick and painless maneuver, moreso than saying

"Please move image 1096904 to Blokus"

If an image is in the wrong item, you may feel free to email me directly. I can take care of image requests, to keep the corrections queue down a bit. You can also contact me if you find a watermarked image, or corrupt image, or something like that.

I just got married, and I'm moving in a few days, so things may be a bit slower than normal for another week or two, but then I should be able to tackle everything with wild abandon.
