I hope so, I'd love to be able to play it on the go, but then again I've also been saying that about Stone Age and Agricola forever

There's Caylus on the ipad.
I never played Caylus, but LoWD was often called a Caylus clone.
You might want to check it out.

Anyhow, if WotC make an ipad version of LoWD, Id get it on the spot.

WotC is part of Hasbro, which usually has non-compete clauses with its distributor/merchant agreements. This usually delays the release of digital versions of newer titles.

I hated Caylus, but I love Lords of WaterDeep.

I doubt to see that one on the iPad anytime soon, for the reasons mentionned, Hasbro doesn't do that much, at least with success.
