I've only played solitaire so far, Omaha Beach, and I'm getting my butt handed to me. I just can't get enough soldiers up the beach.

So my question is, when playing solitaire, are you supposed to be using one unit only or more than one? It seems that playing with more than one unit will allow you a chance to collect more soldiers, etc. to give you a better chance to defeat the bunker.

Solitaire Play.. - this rule makes a huge difference to survival !

Getting both the bonuses from some dice rolls should make it easier.

Try to get an early badge, then find some bonuses that stack. I would never play solitaire without the D-Day Dice: Badges. Sure, they're each -10 points, but you get all of that back and then some by the end of the game.

I'll give it a try along with using the optional rules.

If you has some time, you could try to write up an session report (turn by turn) about some of your plays on Omaha Beach. With this, people here may give you some advises about how to play, strategies, etc.

This map appears to be heavily reliant on RWB rolls. I personally have yet to conquer Omaha and will not move on to the other maps until a few more attempts (just my play style). Troops, recruitment points, particular specialists, and courage are all equally important to stock up on during each round for this map. But it seems like treading water when you lose the troops you just gained every roll phase. I am going to try to add the beachmaster specialist and the other variants in my next solo attempt. See if that helps me any.

Sectors 2 and 3 are "can not stay here" zones and making sure I not only have the prerequisites for the move into these zones, but also for the immediate push forward is a task within itself. I love the challenge though and can't imagine how tough it was for the boys that were actually there.

Ps, I sometimes play appropriate theme music for the time period while playing in hopes it will bring me better luck. Hasn't yet. shake

Conquered omaha finally. Added the engineer and grenadier in the recruit pool and bazooka in the items. The permanent -5 applied to defense and a temporary -7 really saved my backside.

Troops and RWB was my basic strategy. Threw in a few courage and recruit points here and there. Moved laterally from sector 5 to 4 to give me 3 extra rounds to rally the troops (seemed futile at the time). Sacrificed a decoy to prevent me from losing my minesweeper while moving into sector 7. Sector 9 I used the grenadier to silence MGF while I rallied more troops while utilizing my engineer every combat phase. Inside the bunker I used my bazooka and utilized my engineer for a win with 13 troops remaining.

Now on to the next map....

Hmmm, wouldn't that be cool if Valley had been working on an orchestral soundtrack for the War Stories campaign...

I also finally conquered Omaha with the help of the Well Equiped and Soldier Mulligans optional rules and the Badges expansion.

I have 6+ attempts at Omaha and I haven't even come close. Only made it into the 4th sector 2-3 times and once to next to last sector. When I play solo I use two teams the badges and awards all with no success. Followed the "roll for soldiers" strategy and that didn't work.

I honestly have no clue how to beat this map. If I can't even beat the first one I have no clue if I will ever even make it to the second one. cry

What's the matter with you? This game is SOOOOOOO easy! I have played every map solo, without Badges, and have never lost a single game... blah, blah , blah...

Seriously, after several plays, I only just achieved my first win on Omaha Beach yesterday
