After a dismal start, I am in the situation where I only have one SO point at the beginning of DAY 2.

Can I use 5 points of ordinance for the first mission and save the other 5 for the later mission?

Rules are not clear on this.

thanks

No, because even a fraction of 10 Ordnance Points costs 1SO, so even if you'd take 1 weapon costing 1OP, it would still cost you 1SO point, so no points left for the next mission.

Last time I was playing I forgot that when you hover, you can hit all enemies in your hex with a gun, that can also be a good option when you fly something that can hover with a pilot with a little bonus for cannon attacks. Still, it's not good to fly a mission without any better weapons. Just choose a Battalion that won't be too tough

Often when playing the hard campaigns on general war, I find
myself doing whole days without munitions due to lack of SO points.

So the last time I played the WW3 campaign I purposfully attacked early in the campaign with unguided bombs while I was just half killing
the nastiest Bn effects. Some of the nastiest effects are owned
by the easiest Bn's to kill, so you can save SO points early by doing
this.

Just use a fast pilot in an F-16 and leave on the second turn before enemy moves. With a little luck you can half kill without spending So points to save them for later days when killing outright is the
objective.

I hate making two trips to kill a battalion, but that is really good strategy advice right there.

It's definitely no. When you buy ordnance for a mission you spend 1 SO per 10 points. They can't be saved, carried over, or otherwise applied to different missions.

Thems the breaks.
