BattleForce Module System
Version 0.2
31 July 2012
By Ben Silver

This project was started out of frustration with the fact that an otherwise relatively-quick wargaming system (BattleForce) had a long setup time that required players to build forces and calculate point values before a game could start. I wanted to streamline this process with modular, pre-built units that could be mixed and matched to build forces of any size and type (mech, vehicle, infantry, aero, even warship). This is the current progress that I have made towards that goal.

Essentially, it works as follows: pre-filled standard Strategic Operations BattleForce record sheets are separated into individual units and then mixed-and-matched to create armies of the desired size. When creating new unit modules, the earliest year that all elements would be available is labeled so that players can set year-based technology caps. I envision this as a system that can easily be expanded by people that want to post individual PDFs of record sheet(s) containing new units. So long as all of the requisite information is filled out (point totals, weights, year), it is easily added to the pool of draftable units for the sake of force creation. Long term, it could be slightly easier than drafting completely new forces for each game. Eventually, this system could provide a quick-setup version of BattleForce that can easily be expanded to advanced play and used across all eras. Below are links to a PDF with the current set of instructions and a zip file containing the record sheet modules. A separate zip file containing the Photoshop PSD files used to create the record sheets is also linked below. The first set of unit modules was created from the BattleForce -> BattleTech conversion table listed at the back of the NAIS Fourth Succession War Atlas Vol 1 for House Davion forces.

No, sorry, I haven't touched this project in a few years, but you could convert some of your own using the files above and your choice of BattleTech supplement. Good luck!
