Will the game assign you to a specific u-boat as in type and number?
For example type VIIC, U-440 or do you pick your own boat type?

Hello,

You are allowed to use whatever U-Boat type you wish, however, certain boats are not available at certain times. For example, a Type VIIC can't be used before October 1940, which is when they first started patrolling historically.

I certainly encourage people to use historical U-Boat numbers to assign to their boats (and a listing of them all is included)but you are not required to do so. If you wish to name your boat U-12345, that's your option.

Sometimes during the game you're allowed to upgrade your U-Boat, so if you start a game in September 1939 (the long campaign game) you might be able to upgrade to a Type VIIC boat, depending.

Hope that makes sense,

How do you factor in the to Allied tech and tactics breakthroughs? Is there a certain point past which the game becomes difficult or uboats are more likely to be destroyed?

Yes, Damo, as the war progresses there are certain modifiers that kick in that reflect the Allied technical and tactics breakthroughs of the time. For starters, enemy detection becomes much more likely, and aircraft encounters become more lethal. A large aspect of this game is truly one of "survival" -- as it should be.

This sounds great! It would be awesome if the game included some detailed description of different kinds of uboats and some historical backgroung.. if that's not too much.

We do include basic stats about each U-Boat model on their corresponding U-Boat Display Mat as a small, nice touch to add some historical information to the product. You also can't take a U-Boat model out on patrol until it became available during the course of the war (obviously). And, of course, the torpedo loads, etc. all are based on research, etc. That's just a cursory response...there's more historical representation in the game beyond this!
