Yup, that's the ticket. I tried this myself a couple of times, only to have others on BGG tell me I wasn't being ambitious enough, so I know where from you come.

While I adore the cleverness this system teases out of you, with its harsh quartermasters reluctantly dribbling out supply, I'm still inclined to think it's more "gamey" than an accurate simulation would be. I don't believe Operation Typhoon (the campaign setup) would start out not with an artillery bang, but with an artillery whimper, as barrage is just too, damn expensive to use supplies on. This also holds for the majority of the infantry units, who seem preoccupied with cooking brats and watching the mechanized show from the sidelines, apparently lacking ammunition for their weapons.

DRM free google supplied tunes. I thought it evoked my innate dim witlessness at not seeing this little move. Now I am looking back at my first 3-4 turns on the board thinking...ok, what would have happened in Turn 2, how aggressive would the Russkies try to be? could surround and isolate a German formation? Could they attack on the retreat?

Once I made that move I must admit I was a bit dumbfounded as to what would transpire the next turn, I did not finish moving all the units nor did I ramp the supply forward. Nevertheless I get the 'feel'. Curious to see whats next so I am going to mess with GBII on vassal for a bit.

the wife just told me we are replacing the carpet with some sort of liquid tile.......this means moving the game.

FUCUUUCk. Seriously woman.

@ Darrell, I hear your pain brother and I believe that many others do to. The speed bump Arty forever appears to be a topic in OCS circles. I try to love it for what it is. Since I'm not even smart enuff to be gamey I am just trying to live the dream of monster gaming.

As I mentioned somewhere else I am not a "@ 4pm on the 27th of September Stumpfuher Hans Schnuffelbergingripston attacked with 3 panzer battalions forever changing the face of battle on the Eastern Front." guy. Is it interesting? is it reasonably realistic etc etc .
I for one DO NOT like the airwar in OCS. I think it is a HUGE burden for very little gain. Lots of F-ing around for little OR too much gain.

I would love someone to right an abstraction rule set for air, and incorporate the hipshoot concept, the arty I can live with despite its brokenness.

This game appears to provide the sweeping scope with mindfulness orientated towards the Operational Art of War.

I have EFS (GMT's series Vance borries) and I intend to give both a run for their money with the Op Art of War guidelines as my measuring stick.....ifI can stomach another East front title after those two I will try this Proud Monster which I innately do not want to like.

I loved the music. Very entertaining.

With the bonus southern movement, it can just barely be reached. Always a nice surprise. My first few playthroughs, I kept forgetting to treat the Track as a Track and not a Secondary Road. Slows the Germans down a bit.

Orel is 25 mp's from the starting location of 18th panzer division, so they can reach Orel with 1 spare mp. That is cutting it fine, but 3rd and 4th panzer divisions can provide extra support for protecting the supply line.
