Here's what we're playing with:

Makes it WAY easier to read the information on each card from anywhere around the table, and also way easier to tell at a glance who's where.

What were they thinking?

For Fantasy Flight, I think theme wins over functionality. I'm ok with that.

Well, it's important to tell the characters apart as there is a wealth of information for each character that distinguishes one from another.

In some cases, I agree with you.
But with Infiltration, ALL you have are the bloody room cards. What good are they if the player pieces prevent you from reading any of the information?

My group tends to put the player markers above whichever room they're in.

In which case theme has already lost to functionality.
So why not go the full step as the OP suggested?

Just to dig up an old thread, since it's a little related to what I am about to ask...

has anyone got any good miniatures to replace the cardboard cutouts with? Are there any sci-fi/cyberpunk 20mm minis that might work? (25/28mm minis might be a bit big?)

Not a fan of those pawns, myself. I'd be cool with approporiate miniatures, but those things look like they've been pifered from a kindergarden.

We just move the official markers around a little if we need to read what's on the room card again after landing there. it's not like there's a load of info anyway. When the room's revealed, someone reads all the text, and then people usually just need a brief reminder.

You must hate just about every Eurogame there is, then.

Lol I don't actually think I own any Eurogames. I'm a bit theme-centric. I think Supremacy's the game in my collection with the least 'realistic' bits, but it gets a pass due to the little black plastic mushroom clouds
