My friend and I decided last night on a whim to drive out to Lancaster and check out the WBC for 2 days, either this Friday/Sat or Sat/Sun. We hope to (1) just observe what competitive tournament play is all about, (2) perhaps try competing if not too late to sign up, and (3) of course just play games in Origins Board Room-style open gaming if possible.

Any tips for a first-timer?

1.) Go Friday/Saturday. Sunday is dead.
2.) Come find me, I'll be there alone tomorrow =P
3.) Open gaming is great.

Check out the program at http://www.boardgamers.org/wbc/schedule.htm to find out which days have more tournaments that might interest you. You can find previews of the tournaments at http://www.boardgamers.org/Yearbkex/

Also the library gets put away Saturday at midnight.

What was said above....

Just come, it is so much fun and plenty of gaming time to be had.
Be prepared that you will want to come for the whole week next year, once you have had a taste meeple

I spend most of the week in open gaming and only enter 2 tournaments. At the beginning of the week, you think this is great a whole week of games, next thing you know its almost Friday... and its nearly over cry.

Great decision to decide to come
