One of my wife's coworkers had a baby the other day. They said that she was in labor for 29 hours, and then they did a c-section because it still wasn't coming out. Yikes.

My advice: If it's not out after about 14 hours or so, it's not coming out. Do a c-section and get it over with at that point.

14 hours!
holy crap!!!

i dont think the doc is gonna let her wait that long.

pretty sure he said 6 hours tops yesterday.

wife really doesnt want a c-section, and i really dont want her to get one, but if it comes down to it...we're not waiting.

Drink lots of water and try to remain calm.
I was phoned (at work) by my wife saying that she was going into labour-- she was already at the hospital-- and I arrived all hot, jittery, and practically breathless. I reached the birthing room and immediately felt faint.
It's embarrassing when the nurses are more worried about the husband than the woman about to give birth.

Ha, ha, yeah. He just said that so as to not scare you. But hey, there's always the possibility that it will be (relatively) quick and easy. I hope that's the case for you.

Until about age 13, then the opposite is true for 4-5 years.

I assume it's the first one and you're inducing? You don't usually get warning like that!

Our first one took 4 hours of waiting, walking the halls with her, and waiting more. the second one, we got to the hospital and the doc said, "You're too far along, you're delivering without drugs" bam half hour later, had a kid in my hands.

speaking of booze and babies, rub rum or schnapps on their gums when they are teething, depending on the facial reaction you wish to achieve. It works! Also, My daughter was 6 and was trying to get a tooth out, she twisted it and was screaming in pain. I got one of those baby syringes for medicine and shot a drop of peach schnapps in there. She said, "Hey! it worked!, mmm that's good. can I have more?"

gonna have to watch that one...

My wife was in labor with our two sons for about 3 hours total. They were born in a birthing center underwater. Our pediatrician wanted to see an underwater birth so I talked him into giving son #1 a free circumcision. We went home 6 hours after the birth because they needed the room. My wife slept for about 5 hours and got up and made a huge breakfast for about 8 people.

Best of luck. The good great fantastic times are about to begin.

Had a friend years ago in Sacramento. Gave birth to her second child after being in labor only a couple of hours. 15 minutes after she gave birth she got out of bed, went into the bathroom and put on her make-up. She then asked the nurse if she could have one of us run out and get a pizza and bring it back. She literally was ready to go home in an hour. The doctor said if all his patients were like her he'd be out of business.
