What matters in life is not the triumph nor the struggle but the triumph by tie breaker.

Great map and flavor but seems chaotic and shallow at first for an euro-wargame. The example of combat in the rule-book gives no chance to the defender, whatever the order he plays is card because he is sure to loose from swords and troops. So if a player has more expertise and numbers, he wins automatically. Why not separate by flanks and center the resolution of swords and numbers like for terrain, punishing over-commitment?

dear friend thank you,

All the players must manage 12 battlecards
(total army 48.500 soldiers) that they are the same to all the players.
The cards also are divided in diferent total of army and diferent training !!
Before every new round you plan your strategy that you want
and you must allocate this battlecards to your 4 military units
so you cannot have all your military units with strong cards
but you must choose which military units have strong or weak or balanced cards !!!
Also the attacker do not know before the battle the cards of the defender,
and the result is not so obvious, the cards revealed after the setup.

Yes in this example the byzantine admiral has very stong cards and
the saracen general not so strong cards, and the result is the strongest
army to win the battle but not and the war!!!

i hope to help you
thank you
lefteris !!

So overcommitment is still punished but through allocation of battlecards rather than in battle, fitting. I still don't know if the Spying and Campaigning are enough to break the chaos of a so strong fog of war (the Income rule should help though) but I have to bite my tongue for not reading the Historical Reference on the same day, thinking it was only flavor. It does add interesting layers of strategy (turn 3), deepness and immersion.

One night sleep and I'm more inclined to understand the balance and gambles you have to make to score points, especially since you have 4 different allocations but one with 7 of the same.
