I've only played a few games with hex grids but they just seem to improve the play for me, any recommendations?

Edit: I do NOT like wargames

Hi Joe, really more information is needed.

what type of games do you like? if you're only criteria is Hexes, check out the wargames subdomain, more hexes than you can shake a stick at.

Yeah, there are zillions of games with hexgrids. Most wargames, lots of abstract games (Hex, Yavalath, Chase, ...), plenty of euros (Catan, Kingdom Builder, Stephenson's Rocket, ...) ... additional info beyond merely liking hexes would certainly be useful for narrowing down your search.

I mostly play thematic games, where levelling up and improving stats is a big part of the game. Games such as, Descent, Advanced Heroquest, and some of the old RPG stuff

I'd ideally be looking at an indepth game with similair traits to an rpg but on a board.

Cheers

Edit: I saw runebound but I don't think I can handle another FF Game just yet, they're all too similar cry

Twilight Imperium?

It has Hexes, and you get to research tech to make your faction better. it also takes bloody ages.

I would venture about 5,000-10,000 wargames on hexgrids are out there.

How about Barbarian Prince? This one is quite fun, with an old-school RPG feel, and available for free

I don't know much about current such games, but besides the just-mentioned Barbarian Prince, here are couple more old school hexgrid boardgames with fantasy character adventure:
Wizards
Magic Realm

Have you looked into Mage Knight Board Game? Sounds like that might fit your criteria pretty well.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, Mage Knight and Magic Realm (albeit incredibly hard to find) seem to be my safest bets

Thanks
