If I understand correctly, LCG (Living Card Game) is a trademarked (or reserved, copyrighted, not sure) term from Fantasy Flight Games. Penny Arcade: Paint The Line ECG – Red Tide is using the term ECG (Expandable Card Game). I don't know if Penny Arcade has trademarked that term.

But what other terms can I use to describe a game that really is a LCG but without calling it that? Ideas? Suggestions?

Haha, very true. My game is titled The Candy Shop War Card Game, so I'm not trying to call it a Living Card Game in its title, but this game plays more like a LCG than a typical card game like Dominion or Rack-O, etc. So I'd like to be able to use a term in describing it besides simply "card game" if I can.

Or you could just go with the original term: Collectable Card Game (ccg), or the less expensive-sounding name: Customizable Card Game (also ccg).

Is LCG copyrighted, or is Living Card Game? You could call it Longliving Card Game or something whistle

Two terms commonly used and, in my understanding not copyrighted, are "Trading Card Game" and "Collectible Card Game".

Those both refer to collectible random blind buy games.

An LCG is a complete game in the box with non-random expansions that come out on a very regular basis.

Are you selling a constantly expanding card pool, or a game where you build something from a fixed pool? If the former, good luck to you, because you're going to need it. If the latter:

Custom Deck Game
Build Your Own Adventure Card Game
Design-A-Deck Game

(And when I say a fixed pool, I don't mean it can never expand. Lots of successful games have expansions, from Munchkin to Agricola. I just mean that you aren't selling the game on a promise of regular expansion, as FFG does (did?) with their LCGs.)

I would say expandable card game or expandable deck building game depending on what it was.

Freaking retarded if you can trademark something like "expandable this and that" but it's the US after all.

Better trademark "dinner at noon" or "tv couch" or "dinner table" or "water hose" or ..

Of the terms under consideration, I like XCG best (better than LCG, actually). It suggests transcendence of the blind-purchase CCG format.

Extensible or Expansible Card Game, XCG
Augmentable Card Game, ACG (cool, I see someone else suggested this too)
Supplementable Card Game, SCG (but supplement often implies deficiency)
Reinforceable Card Game, RCG
Enhanceable or Enlargeable Card Game, ECG or NCG
Boostable Card Game, BCG
Unlimited Card Game, UCG

How about not including "card"? It'll be pretty obvious it's a card game so just let people know its expansible.

EDIT:
Expandable Game System which gives the TLA people are so often enamoured with.

It's a trademark on what. Neither Living Card Game nor LCG is a product. It's a kind of product. It's like having a trademark of First Person Shooter and FPS. Can you really trademark a kind of product? I find it hard to believe that trademark is valid (regardless if it is registered).

I'm not saying it would be cheap to challenge. I just find it odd that you can trademark a type of product that is not itself a product.

IANAL, but...

I don't believe there is a product called iPod. iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPod Person, all sorts of thing, but no stand-alone iPod. Yet, I'm pretty sure Apple has a trademark on iPod, all by itself.

For that matter, there's no car called a "Toyota" or "Ford", either. But those have got to be trademarks.
