Gastronomy. They have good products, but don't eat anything involving actual cooking skills. Poutine? gulp come on.

But this come from a belgian who finds anything outside belgium, italy, france and the far east barely eatable

I had assumed that this meant Canada was the problem of a nation. I wanted to check who, because Canada isn't anyone's obvious problem.

If only you had waited 100 years the lesser 50 states could have been as good.

The tragedy of Canada is that we could have had English culture, French cuisine, and American technology. Instead, we wound up with American culture, English cuisine, and French technology.

Could be worse, could have been American cuisine.

At USA, we don't make a lot of the cuisines you eat. We make a lot of the cuisines you eat better.

American cuisine, it's taking someone else's cuisine then deep frying it (a sort of Scotish cuisine but with nicer place settings).

English cuisine

American cuisine

America does a lot of good food and its occassionally fun to order a sandwich the size of my head but better food than the French. Thats just crazy talk.

Here are a few suggestions to talk about:
- What are the peculiarities of the political system? What's better, what's worse compared to other countries?

No idea. I take no interest whatsoever in Canadian politics.

Quote:
- How well is the economy doing? Any foreseeable opportunities or problems?

The banking system seems like one of the best in the world. The economy is doing fine, it seems, much better than many places in the world. When I go back to the UK for visits it seems depressed. Canada seems happy.

Quote:
- How tolerant, moral, docile, ... is the society?

Far too liberal and tolerant of abhorrent lifestyles. But that's a two-edged sword because the liberal attitudes here are not as annoying as American fundamentalism.

Quote:
- How well are public programs run - education, health care, retirement, welfare, ...

No clue whatsoever but it seems to work fine. I am not one to ask though since my kids are in a private school I help run, I never go to the doctor, am miles from retirement and have never been on welfare.

Quote:
- Other peripheral features: crime, weather, culture, pollution, cuisine, leisure time, ...

Crime, except in Toronto lately, is hardly a factor. The weather stinks. Winter is horrid and it's too hot and sticky in the summer. I used to live on Vancouver Island but moved back to Ontario for some reason. The culture is a curious mix of British and American, in the main. No idea about pollution. The cuisine is nothing to write home about. Leisure time stinks. I get a paltry 3 weeks holiday a year. 49 weeks slaving away for my employer and 3 tiny weeks off. Crazy.

Crap if you just order the small its still like a 20 oz soda... now why are we so fat?

I like that protest one Jarred - it is a riff of an old Canadian joke whereby our protest chants go kinda like this:

WHAT DO WE WANT ?!?

CAREFUL CONSIDERATION OF OUR NEGOTIATING PROPOSALS !!!

AND WHEN DO WE WANT IT ?!?

IN DUE COURSE !!!

Good beer? Let me let you in on a secret. There's no such thing as good beer. Beer is crap. All beer, everywhere. Crap. Total. Complete. Crap.

Hey guys, fast food is not the only American cuisine.

Hamburgers.
Pizza.
Jello.
Casseroles.
Steak. You know... cooked steak.
Fair food, such as deep fried bacon and Twinkies.
Sandwiches. You know... with two pieces of bread.

Then there is the triumvirate of Chinese Food, Mexican Food, and Italian Food. All very American.
