When I was probably 13, my parents rented a series of movies(on VCR!) that seems like they were 3 or 4 hours long each and there were at least 3 different ones. They were all about the same family but moving from generation to generation, like where they originated in England, then came to America, etc etc. The older family members would die off, but the movies would continue following the children. Very historical movies and at the time I thought they were really good. These were probably made in the early 90's.

Hmm. Doesn't ring a bell, but it does sound like a series they would show on Masterpiece Theater.

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Sounds like John Jakes's The Kent Family Chronicles:

The first 3 or 4 novels were made into tv movies.

In the wonderful game, Bonaparte at Marengo, this is how to get nasty Frenchies out of a village.

Holy crap, I remember reading a bunch of those too many years ago. I was around 11 or 12 at the time. Probably says more about me than I care to admit...

That's it! Thanks so much. Wonder how they hold up now?

That link actually says the movies were done in the late 70s. We watched them much later than that though.

Yeah! Someone should 'make' a T V show upon "WalMart's" 'founder' delving unto his familial background and call this: "The Waltons"! Then, get a 'bunch' of some "Bradys" for yet another too! How about some 'diminutive abode' upon the 'plains', "Boss"? whistle

Aside from the English part, your synopsis sounds like The Godfather.

I hope not. Because, if they do, my MST3K collection is in BIG trouble...
