I suppose it's a tiny pope baby step in something resembling the correct direction.

He said it was acceptable to use a prophylactic when the sole intention was to “reduce the risk of infection” from Aids.

This article is dated 20 November 2010. As positive as the article sounds, I have noticed a major change in the Catholic Church's position in the last twenty months, at least in the USA. soblue

Oh come on, has anybody researched the Catholic HIV rates over the last 20 months? I get phone calls every fifteen minutes from pollsters, but nobody has yet asked me if I have prevented any Catholics from getting AIDS with my condom usage. This is obviously a flaw in our national polling strategy.

Shame it didn't happen. Several million deaths and extreme poverty are less important than dogma I suppose.

Galileo's excommunication wasn't rescinded until John Paul II. I predict a doctrinal shift on condoms around 2550.

I really think his mitre (yes, I had to wikipedia it) could use one. At least then, he'd get use out of it.

For all his faults he was quite a liberal thinker. Shame the current pope has gone back to the old ways.
