Let him join in and let him start with how much exp the other characters have already earnt, so he can modify his character appropriately.
Then continue the campaign

I've done this and it works just fine....I try to make sure that if people are jumping in and out of the campaign, that I keep track of what whop items and classes are used, so that if two people that have never played together join at the same time, we don't have class or item conflicts...

I, for one, applaud the poetic styling of the original post.

No need to apologize. When I said I applaud it, that meant I liked it.

I'll add an applause for spelling "heroes" correctly. Many native speakers can't seem to do that.

On topic, I agree with Peter and Chadwick. There are some handy campaign sheets available in the file section, and I use them to record pertinent information.

Edit: if my Thai is correct, ชมเชย == applaud.

Why does everybody think I'm always antagonistic? I'm trying to be nice to you.

Yeah, let's stick with that reading of what I wrote.

It's in the season 8 comic series.

Yes, I'm serious.

How I would go about adding another hero:

First, give the hero the same amount of XP as the other heroes. Next, figure out how much gold per hero the party has on average, rounded down to the nearest 25 (so if the party of three has 250 gold, that's a bit more than 75 gold per hero), and give that much gold to the party. Deal out five cards from the current item deck and let them shop to gear up the new hero.

Moving forward, I would highly recommend not letting the hero players drop heroes - have someone play two heroes, if you don't have enough players, but keeping things balanced for a shifting number of heroes is difficult.

If you've got more than four hero players that rotate out, I suggest keeping the same four heroes; that'll keep from changing the gameplay mechanics. The players are free to switch which hero they play as after each session, just as long as the heroes stay the same.

If that won't work and everyone wants their own hero, that will work (just give them all the same XP, let them spend XP from sessions that they weren't actually there for), but because the items are intended to be limited availability, your best bet is to keep the same item "pool" for the heroes as a whole. Basically, don't track each hero's items individually, track what the group has and let them split up items however they want before each quest.

This may put the OL at a slight disadvantage, since the heroes can change what skills they have available after each session; I would say to give the OL a chance to change what cards he's purchased whenever the heroes switch which characters are being used.
