I read through the 'game themes have been over done' thread and it got me wondering, what themes would you like to see for a game? I'm curious to see how this ends up in relation to the other thread.

If someone mentions one you like please quote it and say that you agree or give it a plus 1 or what ever.

I would really like to see more games with a Zombie Apocalypse theme. There is so much potential there, yet no one seems interested in pursuing it. whistle

Superheroes. Most superhero themed games are simply thin movie tie in games.

Personally I prefer the Stone Age or steampunk. Or maybe a mix of prehistoric dinosaur riding clans vs a revolution of steampunk machines. whistle

Time travel is one that I have always wanted to see done well. There has never been a game where it is really well defined and designed to give a feel of a time travel adventure like you see in movies or TV shows.

I'd like to see a muscle-car game (NOT nascar or formula), where it's a combo economic/racing game. You build up your finances getting sponsorships and winning races, use the money to mod your cars with various features and buy/trade for different cars, then race the cars again, etc...

I've not seen a combo economic/racing game before (aside from track-gambling games, which I'm not talking about here), but I think it would be great if done correctly. It would be best if the game featured real makes and models of muscle cars from past and present, rather than fictional ones.

What about HeroClick? Have you played it and if so did you like it? I agree that some more super hero games would be cool, but when I think of that genre I always think of RPG's.

Chrononauts is pretty good.

For some reason, and I don't know why (not being sarcastic here) racing games usually don't sell well. The econ/racing might help that genre along.

There is good stuff here, keep them coming!

I think I agree with this. Are you thinking along the lines of a "save the planet" goal with each player taking on a a character with a unique super power? Maybe a cooperative game? Maybe not a cooperative game, wherein each character plays to his/her strengths to see who saves the planet first or who does it with the least amount of collateral damage?

I've tried HeroClix but I didn't like it. I think its very primitive how it tries to tie in all these different concepts into a very limited rules frame. I don't think there's been a very good superhero game out until just recently, with Sentinels of the Multiverse. This is the first game I'd consider "good" within the genre. There's still a lot of room out there for well-done superheroes.

Just want to point out Police Precinct, which funded on Kickstarter awhile ago. Even uses the same artist.

Also, to add my own:
A battlemech gladiator game, where players play the "sports team manager" for the battlemechs.

Weasels frozen in ice.

+1 for super heroes done right. Too often, super powers are just higher numbers for dealing with combat. I'd like to see a Super Hero game built on the Doom/Descent engine where the heroes have game breaking powers, like infinite speed (still limited by actions per turn, doors take time to open...) or never losing a fight (still gotta stop the bomb/save the civilians!!). There's tons of things you could do even in the confines of a griddy tactical game and it would be exciting to come up with powerful combos between heroes to solve "unwinnable" situations.

Also I think the actual power grid would be pretty cool to have a game about. The weird logistics--like paying remote wind farms to shut down during heat waves (periods of high demand), because it's so expensive to transfer the electricity across large distances. And subsidies that make crazy options financially viable.

I think it would be cool to focus on the dramatic side of superheroes and their alternate personas and their real-life problems and so forth. They are more than just a collection of superpowers.

I'd also like to see a decent superhero where you get to make your own heroes and choose their powers and so forth.

Of course, I'd have no idea how that would actually work.

Someone a few weeks back posted a concept for a game centered around being development ministers in a Communinist country, which I thought was a pretty rad concept.

I'm a Political Science junkie, so I'd love to see more games about modern or contemporary politics, political organization, and diplomacy, like Campaign Manager 2008 or Kremlin.

I agree, sort of; but the mechanics of time travel are very difficult to reproduce on a two-dimensional space. There have been some good attempts, though. Khronos, Time Pirates and Time War all spring to mind; I'd particularly like to see a re-imagining of the last title.

Khronos played on the paradoxes more than anything else; Time Pirates was completely about adventures through time; Time War was all about bending history towards your super power's benefit.

I'm with you on this; I get the distinct impression my game groups are not. I wish I could get my copy of Marvel Heroes played.

This sounds interesting, but what do you mean exactly? I would have thought that all civilization games were alternate histories.
