I am interested in the Caesar's siege of Alesia and have found the following games that cover the battle on BGG:

Caesar: Epic Battle of Alesia
The Siege of Alesia
Alésia, 52 Av. J.-C.: César contre Vercingétorix
Alesia
Alesia 52 B.C.: The Jurassian Hypothesis
The Siege of Alesia
Ancients

Are there more? Please add.

Thanks.

Still the best game on the topic, I think. A satisfying (albeit LONG) experience.

100% agreed. This game is a riot.

Caesar: Epic Battle of Alesia is a very fun game, but not - from what I gather - a very accurate simulation.

Ditto. Fabulous game. Was also a good issue of the Avalon Hill's The General covering the game with a decent discussion of where the forts should be deployed.

I know this took some real knocks on the boards when it came out; was there a significant update to the rules since?

Why? I have it, but have yet to play it.

Just curious; everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I find GMT's GBOH series to be quite enjoyable. Is it an historical accuracy issue?

"...but not - from what I gather - a very accurate simulation."

Then again, since no wargame actually falls under this heading, go ahead and have some fun.

Given the substantial limitations on our tactical knowledge of any ancient battle, "accuracy" is subjective.

What he and they and them said. A fun game that has aged remarkably well. I have the GMT game too, but it just didn't grab me the way the old Avalon Hill one did.

Then again, since some are inevitably closer to "game" in the simulation spectrum, keep it in mind while you're having fun with a rendition that has both the terrain wrong and the numbers of combatants wrong.

Super-fiddly, full of uninteresting maintenance work like actually carrying bundles of wood to pile on the earthworks. The GBoH system is just fine, but they put stuff in the game that didn't need to be there. Too much Berg, not enough Herman.

Oh man, if there's one thing I've always thought,
it's that the GBoH system just isn't quite fiddly enough. :D

Still, looking forward to trying this one.

I have to make a game about this topic one of these days.

In the meantime those two "fit the bill" for me:

Caesar: Epic Battle of Alesia

A bit long, but most excellent. One of my "Top Ten" games.

Alesia

Ok effort. Fast to play!
