OK - You are going to have a THREE GAME gaming collection for the rest of your life

Which of the following would you choose?
Each is the set of SdJ or Ken SdJ nominated games that year.
If it is a set of FIVE games, consider only your top THREE (I know that will give the 'Five-game' choices more popularity, but oh well - knowing that ahead of time should atill make the results easy to compare)

Which year did the jury get it 'right' in your opinion? Remember - these are your only 3 for life!
Poll
Which 'year-set' represents your BEST pick of three?
(Please let me know if I've made a mistake in the options! :) )
2012 SdJ - Vegas, Eselsbrucke, Kingdom Builder
2012 Ken SdJ - K2 Targi Village
2011 SdJ - Qwirkle, Asara, Forbidden Island
2011 Ken SdJ - 7 Wonders, Strasbourg, Lancaster
2010 Dixit, Identik, Ala Carte, Roll Through the Ages, Fresco
2009 FITS, Dominion, Finca, Fauna, Pandemic
2008 Stone Age, Keltis, Witch's Brew, Blox, Suleika
2007 Thief of Baghdad, Zooloretto, Thebes, Arkadia, Yspahan
2006 Buccanneer, Aqua Romana, Just 4 Fun, Thurn + Taxis, Blue Moon City
2005 Niagara, That's Life, Around the World in 80 days, Jambo, Himalaya

I sort of anticipate a 'Dominion vs. 7 Wonders' race (which wasn't intended)

Personally, when I look at these, I think 7 Wonders is a great game, as is Lancaster. I haven't played Strasbourg, but I know Feld is highly respected - That seems to be an impressive trio of games!

Meh.

Got to go back before these years to get anything I'd want to choose...

Fair enough

When I searched to get a list of winners/nominees, the one I found only went back to 2005.

Maybe a second poll by someone for years earlier than these?

I want 1995. That gives me Medici and Catan, which is a pretty good start!

Also out of curiousity, people picking the Dominion set - What are the 3 you'd be choosing?
(Likely Dominion and Pandemic, both great games, and the third...?)

for the lighter crowd, I'd suggest 2002

Puertro Rico, Villa Paletti, Transamerica.

That's a pretty good trio of games.

Otherwise I'd go with 2009, Dixit is one of my all time favorites and I can make myself like Fresco if that was the only medium/heavy game I owned.

a little surprised that there are no votes for the 2011 SdJ - Forbidden Island is fun, Qwirkle is OK - haven't played Asara... Not that I've just written a glowing recommendation for it, but still - not bad

Yes, me too. The SDJ awards aren't even a blip on my radar, and none of these games are ones I'd want to be stuck with for the rest of my life.

It's also a Eurogame award and you're more of an Ameritrash/war gamer fan...

Most of them are pretty light, but at least Village, Lancaster, and even Fresco have a bit of meat...

Essentially, the Ken SdJ is attempting to look at a bit heavier games (although more moderate weight on the BGG scale...)

There must have been a moment at the beginning, where we could have said no. Somehow we missed it. Well, we'll know better next time.

Yeah for eurogamers SdJ does have a lot to offer.
Even just the few years mentioned in this Poll, I would call
-Village
-K2
-Kingdom Builder
-7 Wonders
-Asara
-Strasbourg
-Dixit
-Identik
-Stone Age
-Witch's Brew
-Blue Moon City
-Thurn & Taxis

ANYTHING but boring and games I would love to have in a theoretical collection. And that's even with my having only played ~half the games listed in the poll!
