DAY 1 – ACTION – ENERGY

Over this first week we are going to talk about the different actions that you can do each turn in Steel Stars. The first, and most important action we are going to talk about is Energy.

Description: Energy is one of the 3 resources in Steel Stars (Manpower and Command being the other 2) and the main one. Unlike the other two resources, this is not limited by markers, and is used in the same way we use currency today, waxing and waning as the game goes on.

When played: You count the number of systems you currently control and gain 1 energy for each.

DAY 1 – ACTION – COUNCIL

As the first day for the Campaign, we are going to look at an additional action, meaning you know two of the six.

Description: Politics and laws are governed all from the Earth Council. Given the chaos that has ensued after the Resource War, rules for the Corporations are vital. As fleets fight on the front lines, each corporation has ambassadors fighting to push their agenda in the council, hoping to get an advantage through the passing of laws that help them, but hinder their opponents.

When played: The player playing the action chooses a law that is currently on the council agenda to be voted on and announces his position on it. With this it is put to a vote for the rest of the players to either Agree and vote for it, Disagree and vote against it, or remain neutral and abstain from the vote.

Once the voting is complete all players have the option of sending more ambassadors to the Earth Council, which will give them more sway in further Council Actions.

DAY 2 – ACTION – RESEARCH

Today we are going to explore the action that lets you develop planets and improve your colonies.

Description: Not all planets are suitable for human life, so we tera-form the surface as we search them for resources and valuable artifacts and build larger and larger colonies to house the new settlers. At the same time, the corporation is always striving to expand themselves, increasing their wealth and power.

When played: You can spend your energy to increase the number of colonies on each planet you control. You can also increase the attack and defenses of your colonies, and/or increase the level of your Corporation to allow you to store additional energy and increase the amount of command and manpower you have at your disposal.

DAY 3 – ACTION – RESEARCH

Day 3, and another update! Today it’s about Research and how it affects the game and how you play it!

Description: Faster engines, more powerful weapons, and protective shields are just a few of the advances that your scientist can make to help your side win the war!

When played: You can spend energy in each of the areas you have chosen (at the beginning of the game) to specialize in. The money spent increases the level of the research providing bigger bonuses, better effects, or increase the chance it will succeed

DAY 4 – ACTION – LOGISTICS

Thursday’s update is here! So, today’s update is going to focus on how to increase the number of ships at your disposal, from small fighters all the way up to huge destroyers.

Description: To get from planet to planet we create space vessels to help us explore undiscovered planets, to help other ships in trouble, or to cause trouble for other ships! The purchase, construction, and deployment of your ships all happen during the Logistics Action.

When played: The logistics action is broken down in three phases: First, you move any ships under construction along the Space Dock. Then, you are able to launch newly constructed ships and finally you have the option to spend energy to commission new ships to be built.

DAY 5 – ACTION – FLEET

Another update for all of you, this time it is the Fleet action. Moving your fleets, attacking other players, and exploring planets all are done during a fleet action.

Description: As you build your fleets and colony ships, you will need to move them around to explore and colonize new planets, to fend off threats to your mighty corporation and to be a threat to all the other corporations yourself!

When played: Fleet has 3 phases, which are done in this order: Movement, Combat, and Exploration.

Movement – Allows you to move as many of your ships or fleets as you like one system. This can be into any type of system (planets, wormholes, asteroids, etc.) and it can be an occupied system (by you or another player).

Combat – During the second phase of the Fleet action, if one of your fleets is in the same space as another player’s fleet or if another players fleet is in the same space as one of your colonized systems, you can choose to start combat with them. This is a choice you have, and you never have to do it. When combat begins you choose what is attacking what, subtract your target’s shields from your attack value and you roll dice. If you roll equal to or lower than your attack value, you score a hit. If two fleets are attacking each other then the combat is simultaneous, but if you’re attacking with a colony or your target is a colony or colony ship then they have to wait their turn. Multiple round of combat can be fought between fleets, but only one round between fleets and other targets.

Exploration – If you have a friendly colony ship in the same system as an empty planet, you can attempt to colonize it. You reveal an exploration card and based on the outcome, either remove the colony ship and place a command and colony marker, or a negative effect occurs and you won’t be able to place your colony this turn.

The rulebook suggests a minimum of 2 players, but BGG specs show 3.

IndieGOGO Updates
Yeah - I noticed that, they changed it recently.
Sorry for not posting the latest update, Scott mentions the 2-player game, specifically: that it was changed to 3-5 players due to play testing. He goes into that decision further in the video and add that he's working on a 2-player option.

I've posted the video into the game page (awaiting geek-modding) and will update this post once the modding is done so that it links to that page rather that a direct youtube link.
